We've just purchased our 2011 base model Honda Fit from the dealer; we declined their security system (which they offered first for $695 and then $495 - I believe it was the Lojack but am not sure as I was dead set against purchasing any options from the dealer). Unfortunately now I am wondering if we should have bought it because my mechanic told me that dealers must install any such systems. Is this true? Any advice for a good security system for this car? If so, what sort of price should we expect. If this info helps, we live in San Diego (please PM if you have specific recommendations for places to go in San Diego).

I had a Viper 330V Security Upgrade System installed in MAR 2009. I purchased and had it installed ($250) at Car Audio Heaven on El Cajon Blvd. I also had them upgrade my sound system at the same time. The price was fair and the guys knew what they were doing. I walked in at 4pm and they installed everything that night, staying well passed closing to finish my car. You can check them out on YELP.
