i understand the dealers want to get people out of rentals, but first signed up for the recall shouldn't be getting pushed down the list.

Just got called by the dealership, NOW they want me to come in.

Thanks guys, rather than telling me when I called yesterday so I could make time today, they called me late enough today that I'm forced to take time off of work.

And people wonder why I HATE dealerships.

Does the steering wheel come off to do the airbag replacement? Sort of a "duh" question, but I'm not sure.
I hope mine gets towed rather than driven to the dealership. I'd prefer to drive it myself after having it sit rather than letting someone from the dealership drive it.

Why not just drive it yourself? That's what I'm doing.

My new airbag is getting installed tomorrow, a lot faster than the initial estimate.

I just got the call, the airbag came in and is installed. I'm going to pickup my Fit now. So long Nissan Versa Note--I won't miss you!

They told me that they would arrange to get the car to the dealership via a pickup or tow.

Good info regarding the VINs. Thanks.

That's great! I'm at the dealer right now, waiting to drive my Fit home. Overall, Honda has handled the situation honorably. (Aside from knowing about the problem as far back as 2004.)

Agreed--they gave loaners to everybody who asked for them, and they seem to be fixing the inflators in the first in, first out basis. I was worried coming from a low humidity place that I really would be last in line.

If your part has come in, did you take your car in to the dealership in February?

I made an appointment in Feb (the day the recall was announced) and dropped off the car March 4.

Finally got mine dealt with.

Worst dealership experience I've ever had. Will never set foot back in that dump.

Thanks for the reply. Did they have access to your VIN when you made the appointment?

I was lucky because I took my car in for an oil change, and found out about the recall a month or more before the recall notices arrived in the mail. I found out online about the rentals, so I was probably the first person here to get in a rental car.
They took their time installing the airbag today, since they wanted to be sure there weren't glitches with the part. Apparently the replacement Ridgeline airbags had some fit issues.
I asked about the passenger airbags, and the service rep said that since there are no known issues, driver's side airbags will be the only focus for now. I do expect the passenger airbags to be recalled at some point, probably years from now.
Having all those rental cars really clarified what I like and don't like about my Fit, but I'm glad to have it back. It's not flawless by any stretch, but it's paid for and I'm too poor to get something else. Hopefully it will last a very long time.

Yup, I entered the VIN so that the recall came up. I probably could have dropped the car in Feb without the appointment and insisted at that point they give me a loaner, but I was really on the fence about giving up my Fit at all. In the end, I'm glad I did it.

Red face Just got the call - part is in!

Just got the call from Huntington Honda in Long Island NY. My airbag recall part is in. They are coming to me to pick up the Fit and drive it back on Thursday morning. I will then drive the Hertz rental to them on Friday, and they will take care of getting it back to the rental place.

So relieved. We are moving to South Florida in a few months and it was creating logistical problems if I didn't have my car back by then.

I was given a new 2015 two months ago on March 3rd today I got hit by a rock on the highway. I have a nail sized scratch and paint chip on the fender. I wonder what the dealer will say. Ugh I want my fit back soon
