How hard is it to rebuild the honda fit manual transmission?

how hard would it be to rebuild this thing?

From my last post, my transmission died... I took it to so many shops and so many recommendations... and nobody could figure it out... after heavy research and heavy misleading information, it turned out that it was my transmission itself, most likely the shift forks.

So... fast forward to present time, I got my new transmission and I also have it installed now thanks to one of my experienced friends in honda engines, we ended up changing the Transmission in about 1 day and some change. The honda fit was rather easy to work on, I couldn't have gone it by myself.. but I think after the help, I feel pretty confident I can work on this car easily now.

I have attached pictures the old parts!! what is scary is that my clutch still looks like it's new! even after 72k miles. I must have gotten a lemon transmission.. I have owned this car when it was brand new, so I am the only person driving it, and I do not consider myself an abuser of the car.

It's over? I was hoping to finally learn something about transmissions.

Was it the shift forks? Did you need big tools, like impact wrenches? You should do a DIY, even if it is just in retrospect.

I had a pilot bearing go bad at 28k mi. on my '08 Fit. Is there a lot 'freak chatter about bad trannies?

Most Japanese manual transmissions require very specialized puller kits and tools that us mortals can't afford. (Base tranny tool kits start at like 8K.. ) Unless you have a LOT of experience with specialty pullers and how to split clusters in a tranny a rebuild of the trans, is just not a DIY job..

Example, the input shaft cluster for a AX series Toyota tranny requires a special little gadget to grab the gear if you don't use it and use a standard puller, you break the gear.. And get to spend 300 bucks on a new input shaft and gear set.. (BTDT... )

This is fairly standard for all Aisin built transmissions which is MOST japanse cars.

And fwiw I've rebuilt a lot of Borg Warner(US) and Muncy and Getrag transmissions..

The swap replacement is over, but I am trying to figure out what to do with this old transmission now.. and old clutch and pressure plate. I guess I just toss it?

Yep couple of them,, and Ford Pickups.. To be honest every one I've done was because it was a panic, usually on a race car at 2:00 AM.

My BMW has a get-a-rag 6SPD too. So fa I've avoided opening that one, parts are nearly impossible to obtain because of BMW locking the parts with Getrag. Dealer insists the trans is non rebuildable and you have to buy a new one. For like $7K

Ah, you swapped out the trans for a replacement. I thought you rebuilt the old one.

It's probably easier and more worth your time to just replace the entire transmission as you already have. It's not hard to find a replacement transmission for these cars so I wouldn't bother with rebuilding one.

Why are you thinking about rebuilding the spare transmission now?
