TPMS Light On

Anyone else having issues with their TPMS? As soon as it got cold here last week my light came on and has stayed on since.

I'm going to check air pressure in the tires today once they cool from the drive home and adjust accordingly, but I really do not like these systems in general. Had it on my 06 Nissan frontier and it constantly triggered false alarms in cold weather.

At least Honda didn't include an annoying buzzer with the dummy light.

do you mean the tire icon w/exclamation point in it or the letters TPMS in orange light?
my TPMS (letters) light stays on, the manual says it means there is a problem w/ the system if it comes on and that I should contact dealer for service.
haven't called yet, maybe I'll wait till my first oil change and have them fix it then.

I had this problem with my '07 Ridgeline. At first, the TPMS light would stay on when it was cold but eventually go out after the tires (or outside air) temperature warmed out. Finally it stayed on solid, so I had my brother (a Honda tech) check it out. The problem was with the TPMS sensor/transmitter in one wheel. Replaced the sensor and the problem was fixed and has never come back.

tpms

My TPMS (low tire) light came on this morning because it got cold. I called my honda service tech and was told the sensors were VERY sensitive to pressure changes and a sudden large drop in temperature will set them off. He told me to inflate the tires a couple of pounds over the recommended pressure. It worked.....the light went off.

My light was on when I purchased the car last Saturday. The service guys had already gone. I might be able to get it checked later this week.

Mine is on because Johnson's Tire is a bunch of hacks and broke one of my sensors and Honda can't see me till Thursday.

My light is on because I changed rims and did not move the sensors from the original rims to the new one. It does not effect anything

Mine was on too this morning, with the dip in temp outside. Started the car and saw this:

I checked the tires with a gauge and if the gauge is accurate, they were at 28 all around. So I fired up my air compressor, and used the air chuck I have that's got a built in gauge, to set them all at 33 like the sticker in the door jamb said. Then I doubled checked it with the gauge I used at first, and that said ~36.

I've got so many gauges laying around - pencil type, dial, digital.. I never know which to trust. Anyone got any recommendations?

Yep, that is the fix.

I had the same thing happen to my Fit the other morning. But I was expecting it as I have the same thing happen every winter to my Subaru. Usually, the light will go off if you drive it far enough for the heat in the tires to build pressure. That can require a fairly long trip, though, so an increase in tire pressure during the winter solves the problem.

Ha! My Fit only has 180 miles on it and today, after a dinner at a local restaraunt, the low pressure lite (the orange round thing w/ a ! sign on it) came on. Right now it's dark and rainy so i am not going to do anything but tomorrow i will check the pressure. Actually it's not too cold out there yet - in hte mid 50's, so I don't think the light is triggered by temperatures.

BTW, tire pressure checker goes from less than a dollar pencil style to expensive digital ones. Is it more accurate to buy the expensive type? Also, I have a manual air pump for bikes/basketball, etc.. Can I use it to add a bit air to the tire or do I have to go to a service station?

The light isn't triggered by temperature. Air contracts when cold (pressure drops) and expands when hot (pressure increases). The drop in tire pressure when the outside temperature is cold is what causes the light to come on. The closer your tire pressures are to alarm point, and it only takes one, the less of a pressure drop (i.e. less cold weather) will be needed to trigger the light.

Adding a couple of pounds to the tires helps to raise the pressure to a point where even if the pressure drops due to cold, the alarm is not triggered.

Buy a decently built cheap one... it is far easier to adjust. The digital ones are at most 0.5 psi resolution so you can't get more precise than that. A manual foot pump could work but it might take a lot of pumping to do it. I killed a foot pump trying to inflate a tire that was leaking. If you use a service station, always check with your own guage... the ones on the hoses are junk and never accurate.

If you really picky you can get an oil filled tire pressure guage as well.

Do yourself a favor and get a small compressor that plugs into the 12v socket.

Be careful - I blew my accessory fuse doing that, but then again I've blown fuses before in other cars with the same compressor and it has worked fine on a different attempt.

I fixed mine. Both front tires only had 30psi in them, bumped them to 33psi and the light went out.

When I go aftermarket I want to disable the system entirely, guess I could just pull the bulbs, or maybe a fuse???

before leaving the house find out your tire pressure and after your drive (at least 30 to 1hr) then get an average reading.

our 09 fit TPMS is at 33. if you have it at 33 on morning start in a 30min to 1 hr drive should give you at 34-35 .. so i would suggest to have your TPMS at 33 at cold start. So when driving it should be at 33-35
