and now the 2nd part. What are the benefits of going with a 15" rim and tire combo, I seem to like the look, but I assume that I may lose handling characteristics with floppy side wall action.
Sorry for the noobish question, any and all advise would be much appreciated!

There is really nothign to lose by going with a 195-50-15 or 205-50-15, You could also go 55-15......
Ok, If you choose your rim carefully you can shed alot of weight by going with a 15" wheel. There will be less rotating mass which will enable quicker accel and fater braking then followed by better mpg.
A lightweight 16 would do near the same but the 15" woudl still win,
The larger the sidewall you choose to go with the more chance of siodewall flex you have resulting in not as great of handling.

Thanks for the great info guys! O looked up the price on a set of SW388 wheels from spoon and all i can say is they are incredibly expensive. I bought this car to save money, lol.
Anyone know of a good knock off by chance? I believe the wheels are a 16 due to some info I found surfing on the web.
there is no spoon GE, it's a "replica" of what it would look like if they had made it.
and they are probably rota slipstreams haha
Kyle you truly are raddd. lol The slipstreams look great and they appear to be a decent price. I wonder if my stock tires will fit on them if I go with a 16".
Any more thoughts as to which size I should go with? 15" wheels seem to be cheaper and tires seem to be very reasonably priced.
i am actually a fan of the slipstreams as well, love the spoon wheel look.

I do like the look of the 16" wheels, however I just love the price of the 15" versions.

205/50x15 tires on 15x7 wheels with 42 mm offset have been fastest on our test track. Thats unlowered. When you lower you need to increase the offset to 45 mm or more depending on drop.
Part of the reason is 15" wheels have the lightest choices and the 205/50x15 is 23.1" in diameter which is slightly smaller than stock and makes up for the bigger weight more than the stock 195/55x15 or 185/55x16 tires.

i always wondered people talking about 15" vs 16" and how the lighter wheel = less rotating mass / better handling / acceleration / mpg. Is there actually a significant difference that you will feel or notice in real world driving? or are we talking about 0.0001 sec faster at the track kind of difference.

I guess my concern is not shaving off seconds but rather keeping the dynamics and the ride quality consistant. I will certainly not be autocrossing but I also dont want an overly sloppy ride if I need to corner hard.
The other point in my questioning is the overall cost as well. The price of 15" wheels and the tires that fit them are on average are about 60 to 100 dollars cheaper for a set of decent tires. I guess I am trying to achieve a look and feel on a budget, lol.
LOL, so your gonna say a 15" wheel wont handle well. I didnt have any issues at over 500whp on 205-15-15 besides not getting traction till 4th gear

Good Lord that is one sexy beasty! I also had a fun little car as well, I sometimes miss my Mazdaspeed 3 when I pull out into traffic with the fit, but I find comfort in the amount of money I am saving monthly and in general utility of the car.
We will see on this one once aftermarket parts are ava for our cars and I try on my 15" wheels. Ill be honest You just have to have the right drop and right wheels. i got the wheels, just need god damn springs or coil overs
