Litespeed is an unknown quantity at this point
For everyone having this issue, they (body shop) are supposed to add a very thin washer (plastic or metal, approx .5-1mm thick) in between the fender and the bumper.

That is if the dealership told them too. Just add them if they did not.

Anyone have pics or instructions on how to get to that spot where the washer needs to be added? I am looking at my right rear bumper and I see some 'bubbling' in the corner spot... I suspect this will peel unless I do something about it NOW!

No pics, but like most Honda's, there is a philips screw at the corner of each bumper.
Looking from bottom up, you can see it or feel it - it's right at the corner.

If it's starting to chip or flake, I would take it to the dealership and have them take care of it. Make sure they are aware of the repair procedure. I think it's a bulletin or service news relating to the older Fits.

If it's just starting to peel/bubble, just use touch up and add the washer.

Thanks Litespeed... mne is at the REA, whereas every post I've read seems to refer to the front bumper corner area... in any case, I checked and the only phillips screw I see is NOT directly related to the gap... adding a washer there will do nothing for the spacing. There is however a CLIP of sorts that holds the bumper in place at that corner area... if I release the clip, it seems the bumper would cut loose.. but then again, I see no way to add a washer in that area to increase the gap. This is a GE8 09 fit. Oh well!

It's just a service bulletin so it's at the discretion of the dealer whether or not they will fix it, but they did mine to my stock bumpers before I got hit and run and got the body kit.

Just find a nice dealer and bring your car in clean, you don't want them to think it's from abuse. It's a real issue so they have to acknowledge it. Here is the service bulletin, print it out and bring it in.

The paint is terrible--just don't worry about it and save up to repaint the car, that's what I'm doing eventually.

The paint job on my body kit is 10x tougher than the factory paint. It's a brand called BASF.

Honda's use PPG from the factory, which has terrible adhesion and projectile damage resistance, in comparison. This is what the ferrari/lotus/european body specialist who painted my kit told me.

Well, this time they matched the paint. It's correct in color, but unfortunately after I busted out the microfibre towell to wipe it down, I discovered that there is a nice big wrinkle in the paint. Not cool.

They're going to do it again. Tomorrow I'm heading over to honda before I pick it up to let them know that it's been painted 3 times now, and I want a new bumper, because I'm not about to deal with this shit. New bumper, new spray, done.

To top it off, they paid for a rental, but Enterprise had no rental cars, or even SUVs. So I have a cargo van.

My dad's fit is in-frame too.

justintime - the REAR? really? That's a bit weird.. never seen the chipping/flaking in the rear. The problem is usually caused by insufficient space inbetween the 2 components. You are right, there is not a screw there, I just assumed you were talking about the front bumper. My B.
Let us know what gets done.

awptickes - glad they got the color right... but yeeesh, really? 3 times? That's weak. Hope things will work out in you favor.

That is such BS, when will people learn that it's much easier to do things right the first time? Thanks for the laugh regarding the cargo van!!! LOL

I got my fit back last night. The washed it, and even vacuumed out the interior, and cleaned the interior glass. Paint is perfect this time.

I Hopped into it, and it felt like I was getting into a sports car. So, I went and hit the twisties harder than I've ever hit them before, and came even closer to smoking the brakes, they were glowing. No fade, but a little increase in stopping distance, so when I got to the coffee shop I was heading to, I got out, and smelled brakes, got down near the wheels, and smelled it even worse.

When I touched the outer-lip of the wheel, it was hot to the touch, like almost burning. I looked at the rotors, and the top hat was visibly discolored, and bits of the outer edge were a glowing red. I decided I should probably drive around some more to cool them down. After a couple miles, the smell subsided, and I came back to the coffee place and parked.

I know I shouldn't be using the fit for this, but still, it's so much fun to intimidate the sports car drivers on those roads. Thank god my paint is fixed.

My new '09 with 600 miles has the beginning stages of the dreaded bumper paint peel. I took it apart today and added some nylon shims per the "Honda Service news" that was posted here. Maybe I caught it in time but there's already a very slight peel on the passenger side. I'll keep an eye on it. I would have taken it to the dealership first.

Take it to them anyway, and make sure they match the paint on the first try.

Not a chance Im having them repaint my entire bumper for this tiny thing... the car has 700 miles on it.

I know if they repaint it, it will NEVER look right!

jimbob:

I have the washers with me, and tried placing them between the bumpers to increase the gap... this is impossible to do! Can you explain how you managed to get it in there in the right spot and centered so that the screw went through it?

I only removed ONE SCREW on the bumper, that allows me to flap the lower bumper outwards like in your pics... I cant really flap it out too much though... not enough to expose the scre hole.

Did you just slide it in there and pray for the best?

Thanks!
