I think the obvious reason to switch to a 205 is tire selection. The type of tire you pick will make far more of a difference than size. What Tire Rack calls an extreme performance tire as opposed to an all season is a huge difference.[there aren't any extreme perf tires in 185]

i could see wider tires being safer for braking and handling. More traction to stock quicker and/or swerve around obstacles. It'll probably slow acceleration and decrease mpg.

Although, I would say the exception would be in snow/ice conditions. Since I live in the sunnier parts of california, I wouldn't know what would be the right kind of tires to use in snow/ice.

Tire sizes change, please consider your speedometer readout. Wider tires more traction, therefore more gas, greater handling.

Thanks to everyones responses. I do have the bridgestone tires. I don't drive aggressively but I do have a couple miles of gravel. I plan to stay with an all season tire and something much higher than a 300 treadwear. I am considering the goodyear assurance fuel max. They have a 580 treadwear and good reviews.
