Is this gap normal?

I noticed this the other day on my new fit sport! I've searched around on the internet and seen other fit's with the same exact thing! I did notice on the jdm fit models this gap is not present! What is the purpose of the gap on the passenger side trim piece at the bottom of the windshield? Pic below with yellow/red circles:

It's normal. I have no idea why it's that way (design error?). The whole structure is removable to service the spark plugs, valves. The USDM Fit has extra crush space in the front end; I believe this cowling is unique to our market to help cover the longer nose.

I can't remember 100% but I think the gap is there just to give room for the pieces to be removed/installed. It seems that this made sense when I was changing my springs.

Yes, it's normal. I even went by the dealership when I first got mine to make sure. They're all like that.
