Car is Honda Jazz , Uk 2003,

the front windscreen washer has stopped working, unlike in the past when tubes have been block, ive traced the problem, the symtoms are ;

No water being pumped to front washer when switch is pulled

Front motor not making any noise for front pump,

Rear washer works fine as the motor still make the noise when it pumps

ive checked for blockages in the rubber pipes , the switch maybe damaged ?, and or so im thinking the motor for the pump has failed ?

im taking for the circuit to be checked soon, honda have made the connection wiring for the front and rear motor pumps behind the front bumper different from each other which sucks, i dont thing theres a fuse, if there is a fuse the rear motor pump still works, kind off ruling a fuse problem out.

any advice before i by a new pump motor and last resort buy a new lever switch

switch the connectors on both pumps, if the front ones work and the rears dont then the motor is bad

 

hondamatic, i did take a look and clean the connectors on the motor pumps, switching may be difficult as i dont want to cut or damage the wiring,

im hoping the pump is damaged, as it would be easier to change the unit

 

the pumps should have the same connectors.. or use a test light

 

last i checked, the connector blocks are different on each pump

 

oh really, darn.. usually thats how i test mdxs, integras etc at work

 

Thought they were just different colors...

Use the test light to find out if there is power when the switch is being pushed.

 

test the circuit and power is coming in to the pump,

within 4 weeks now the rear pump has also stopped pumping,

still cant find the fuse for the pumps

winters crept in now, so really could do with these fixing before it snows !

 

If there's power at the pumps and the ground is good, you need new pumps. A loose ground will take out an electrical device too.

Check both sides of the circuit to make sure something isn't loose. Also, take a pump out and hook it directly to 12v. If the pump runs, the problem is in the wiring, switch or fuse.

 

were is the ground usually found?

 

I don't know where it is for this component. Someone with a wiring diagram will have to help. There are usually a couple of spots around the vehicle where bundles of wires are attached to the frame of the vehicle. The easiest way to check is with a continuity tester or ohmmeter. Just touch the wire or connector and the frame with the tester.

If you or a friend has a decent multimeter, it should be easy to check for 12volt power and good ground.
