Actually there is a way of measuring torsional rigidity, strictly speaking...but I know you gotta be a chassis engineer for at least BMW or Porsche to get access to a machine that can do so.

So yeah, no practicable way of measuring it for us mere mortals. And agreed, it does make for good pub talk though
