This is the additive that earlier posts were referring to.

I will probably change my oil at 5k, then another 5k, then probably run a Used Oil ****ysis to see if I can run 7k.

But if you are concerned about when to change it, take the oil from the dipstick and rub it against your finger. If you feel grit then its the shavings off the new engine, and you should probably replace the oil. Or take a drop of the oil and drop it into a cup of water.. If it beads up like a nicely waxed car, then its probably still good. If it seeps into the water, then it is probably full of mosture and the lubrication is exhausted.
