When did your Fit have its first Oil Change?

I would stick to 5-20 until the warranty is over, then you will have only yourself to blame if anything goes wrong. Honda may not warranty it unless you stick to 5-20.

here's a thought for you

what if the circuit that checks the oil is broken? either way you are suppose to change it at a certain length / km wihtout the light..

i changed mine at 2k, 4k and 8k.. and each time there is a ton of shavings stuck to the Spoon drain plug.. i for one did not want that stuff to flow around in MY engine

do what you want, i do what i want.. no need to argue about it any more

I think thats why Honda puts a filter in the oil delivery system.

How do you know what other maintenance needs to be performed, if you don't let the maintenance minder get to 85%? Or do you just not reset it, no arguing just curious?

If you are still finding a bunch of shavings after 3 oil changes, there's definately a problem.

So your magnetic drain plug picked up the shavings before it got to the filter. Do what you want. But sometimes it's best to listen to the engineers/experts who designed the car.

Either you are driving like a granny, or I am driving like nuts cause I have 2950miles and 60%or is it that the system is not acurate ?. i definitively will wait till the 5000 mark, and then the next 2 or 3 changes will be on regular oil to then change to sintetic blend or pure sintetic

They are in business to sell cars, Beat the competition. Get 200K per car. If they wanted to car manufactures could get more miles out of there cars. Adventually they want the car to pass on, so you can buy another one. I changed the oil. It was brown/black. Not totally black but you could see it was clearly used and ready.
Go ahead run your dirty oil all you want. I wont.
just know, all of my cars, have always been over 150k with me, then I donate them. Never once have I had a car with engine/ head/ ring problems.

i am at 7800km right now, and the oil life just drop from 70 to 60 in matter of 200km

for me, I think a little investment (oil / filter) upfront will be better than paying for repairs later

as coldstorage said, do what you want :-)

Good to hear everyone elses ideas on their first oil change. I am about to do mine when it hits 6000 miles. I am currently at around 5400 miles with the oil life indicator at 30%.

I'll be using a OEM Honda filter and Castrol GTX 5W-20. This engine just needs to run until I am ready for the K20 swap so no need to do expensive oil changes. I couldnt find oil filters for the Fit at the local discount autoparts otherwise I would have used Purolators oil filters.

Just look up the part # for a 2005 Accord V6. It uses the same oil filter. Good luck. BTW, Honda Oil Filters = Fram. I'm staying away.. try Wix, www.fleetfilter.com

what's with the 15% and 85% talk? doesn't the indicator go in increments of 10? anywho, my dealer told me 5K miles. so that's when i'm changing it. also, dealers usually replace the bolt when changing the oil, is it ever necesary to change the spoon bolt? does it ever wear from threading or heat or anything?

the dealer replaces the washer, not the whole bolt

Alright, well I did the Fits first oil change today at 5735 miles. I ended up using a Purolator PureOne oil filter instead of the OEM USA Honda Filtech filter due to its bad review. I filled it up with 3.8 quarts of 5W-20 Castrol GTX. I'll be taking her to the drag strip hopefully this Wednesday so we will see what it/I can do. It's all about the STOCK 1/4 Mile! lol

had mine done at 5800 for free since was first time at the dealer and boy did they F*** up royaly!!!! beth they were not to happy after i called them!! Anyways 2hrs later im going tot he mall hear something hit the undercarriage didnt think to much of it, I look up and see white smoke and i think aw S*** pull over right away. The guy that changed my oil didnt tighten the drian plug all the way and the sound under the car was the plug and my fits oil all over the under side and on the back of the car *shakes fist!!!*... yeah i was pretty mad and sad i didnt want my car to die its to young!!! lol....anywas cant always trust the dealer to do a good job.....

If your engine seized you should tell that dealer that they just bought the car from you!

Seriously, I would have it checked to see if there is any damage. Keep us posted.

My first oil change is pending. I am at 3100 miles with the oil sensor reading40%. The dealer advised me two things use the oil sensor and scheduale when it reads 10%. The other thing is not to change the oil early because Honda puts in break in oil at the factory. Thats my story
