half of the events on top gear are for journalistic humor. they KNEW the F1 spoiler would have a negative effect on the avantime's lap time. hammond didn't have to drive oliver through the deep end of the lake when both clarkson and may were able to clear the shallow side. clarkson didn't have to buy the vespa-like moped when they drove through vietnam, either. if it were all about "cars, srs bizness" top gear would be as lame as fifth gear (US) and that show was worse than poo.

if you haven't already done so, i would recommend reading through the splitter DIY on s2ki. the splitter is far from fire danger. i'd be more concerned about water and road debris effing up the splitter.

also you need something like this to fill in the gap in the middle of the lip.

i read that home depot sells the same stuff for like $10 but you can buy it on ebay for around $35 shipped.
