i have an 08 fit and i was wandering what offset would i have to use for 15, and 16 inch rims... i read that a 40mm offset would do but not quite sure.

Our guideline which has proven successfully mounting numerous aftermarket wheels/tires on Fits without getting interference:
1. Choose a wheel with min 42 mm offset if the Fit isn't dropped
2. Choose a wheel with 45 mm minimum offset, but not over 48, if the Fit is dropped.
3. Rim widths up to 7" are fine on wheels above..
4. Tire section widths to 205 are successful with wheels above.
5. Wheels up to 17" work well if you hold to the above and below. 17" look really well in my opinion but thats not a guideline.
6. Do have your overall tire diameter hover around 23.5". Tires like 195/45x15 have a diameter of about 21.9", which means there not only is a speedo and odo error of 7.5%, you have reduced your ground clearance by 3/4". If you lowered too hope you like leveling roadbeds and ramps.
Cool ain't always competent.
good luck.

FWIW, on 16's and 40 offset I had rubbing over bumps, now with 42 offset it only hits when the car is loaded and going over bumps. Thats at stock height also. 205/45-16 tires on both also

i still don't see how going above 48 is a no no. the stock offset is fifty flippin five!
there are a lot of guys dropped on konigs with a 40 offset who DON'T rub.
i say that as long as its 40 or above, you will be ok.
True, the stock 08 is 55 offset but we did run into a close clearance with 7" rims with 55 offset on turns based on our wheel gage.
There are also a lot of people with 40 offset who do rub. Whenever you see things like 'I don't rub but I drive over bumps slowly' they probably go rub in the nite or using narrow tires (like 195). To avoid having those things that seriously affect your Fit's resale value you need to avoid any rubbing. Period.
PS putting 195 tires on wider than stock wheels seems like a big waste. The whole purpose is getting more rubber on the ground.
