Ghetto Ram Air!

And no I'm not talking about the E-Ram electric supercharger. I had my foglights off the car painting them when i realized that the itty-bitty vent looking thing next to the fogs is actually open in the back. So I took it out (it just snaps in there) and quickly realized that their is an open shot to the air cleaner on my A-spec CAI from the opening in the bumper for that vent. So I opened up ther back-side of the vent thingy with the trusty Dremel to allow as much air through as possible. Next I attached a 10 inch long piece of 3 inch diameter flexible aluminum duct (don't ask why I had this) to the backside of the vent and stretched it out and through a 90 degree left turn. This left the mouth of the duct right in line with the air-cleaner on the A-spec. And voila! ghetto ram air! Or at least a way to keep the intake from breathing hot tranny air all the time.... And yes there will be pics, tomorrow, I finished up just as it was getting dark

I have Intake Air temp as one of my gauges on my Scangauge, but i haven't done any driving with the new vent in place yet. Its supposed to be quite warm here for the next few days so we'll see. I don't really worry about hydrolock, I've heard all the horror stories, but i've had CAIs on my last four cars and over 200,000 combined miles without any trouble is pretty hard to argue against.

you can get even more ghetto. if its sunny out with no chance of rain just take off your fog light and bam even better cold air. that little slit isnt pushing as much air in there but rogue fit also makes intake ducts. i have one on my car

Well it does work, its not a gigantic improvement, but... When I'm moving at anything above forty MPH the intake air temp drops by an average of five degrees versus no aditional venting. For example, yesterday was about 92 degrees here, sitting at a traffic light with the A/C on the intake temp climbed to 129 degrees. As soon as I got rolling again the temp dropped to 118-119 and stayed there until I came to a stop again. I had never seen that occur before adding the ghetto-vent. So I guess it works! Plus 50 WHP!! LOL

Depends

Depends on how low you have it lowered... should not be a problem unless you are trying to ford a stream... you know, like with a Land Rover. And they have the air intake up over the wind shield!
Let us know how it works! Might try it myself:
BTW does anyone know how to replace the horn... I have one that sounds like a Ferrari...
