Just got a FIT! Help requested (airbag light)

Hello, I'm new to the forum. First of all, I just picked up a used 2007 Fit base model with the manual in Storm Silver metallic with 46,000 miles on it. The previous owner put on 15" Civic alloys, tinted the windows and added an alarm system. I couldn't be happier with the car, I'm having a blast driving it. Even though it has far less power than my old 1995 Saab 900 turbo (RIP,) it handles MUCH better, a very fun car around town. However, I'm having a problem with the car. I've searched for an answer, but have not found what I'm looking for. Here's what's happening. I have the airbag warning light (not the passenger airbag light, the one on the dash) that comes on sometimes, but only when the car is cold. If I shut it off and start it again, the light turns off. After reading about the recall on this forum, I brought it to a dealer who claims to have completed the recall. A day later, I got the light on again! It came on again this morning. Has anyone else experienced this problem? I'm bringing it back to the dealer next week, and any advice you all can offer me would be much appreciated. I'll post pics of the car soon!

that sounds not right... might be a trip to the dealer... if you just bought it used and its already doing that i would bring it back and talk with them about it... they should fix it for you... did you buy it from a honda dealer or private sale?

Just sounds like maybe they need to look into the recall more.

Thanks for the input everyone. I'm bringing it back to the dealer tomorrow, I'll post to update when I get it back. Yeah, 46,000 does seem like a lot of miles of a 07, but the car is in excellent condition and runs perfect except for the airbag light issue and some dashboard rattles.

Update: Just got my Fit back, Honda Village couldn't find anything wrong with the car, even after 2 road tests. So, I think I'm just not going to worry about it anymore.

actually, this is somthing you should worry alot about. an airbag light means the system is not functoning properly, and could even be disabled. this is a major saftey hazard and the dealer needs to rectify the problem. if it was me and the dealer "refused" to work on the car becuase they cannot find the problem, i would consider taking steps to lemon law the car.

I believe if the airbag light is illuminated, that means the airbag will not deploy.

Thanks for the info. I purchased the car used, so the lemon law is probably out. Honestly, I think it may have cured itself. After I got it fixed the 1st time, the light came on once 2 days in a row, then have not been on at all for the last 5 days. If I have further issues with this, I'll post back. Thanks for everyone's input. The dealer suggested that if the light ever comes back on, bring it to them so they can see it. If it does, that's what I'll try and do.

I read a sensationalistic piece recently about unscrupulous used car dealers. They'll take a car that's been totaled by insurance and rebuild it. If the airbag was deployed in the accident, instead of replacing the airbag (which is pretty expensive) they'll tamper with the system.

Your weird airbag light problem made me think of that.

You could run a check on the car's history from Carfax.com to see if your Fit was ever in a major accident.

The airbag system in the fit has a few sensors to not deploy airbags if people are leaning against the windows etc. Was there any strange seating or cargo in your car when you started it these few times?

No, nothing was on the seat. I haven't seen the light in weeks now, but if I do see this occur again, I will take it to a different dealer to have it fixed. Here's a picture of the car. Otherwise, I've been loving the car, though I'm already tempted to lower it a little and maybe get the Progress rear sway bar...

Good point, but when I purchased the vehicle, I checked the carfax report, which stated that the car had no history of accidents and was a one-owner vehicle.

The passenger airbag lite will come on briefly at startup; then go out. If it comes back on it means there is weight, not not enough weight, to activate the passenger air bag (to protect puppies and babies).
If memory serves the weight limit is about 50 lb.

Yes, but I'm not talking about the passenger airbag light. The light I'm concerned with is the drivers airbag light on the dash.

A few days ago my airbag light came on also. I had my camera and tripod on the pass. seat. I store my Absorber under the pass. seat at the center console area. I push it under the seat.
As I was putting the absorber there the light popped on.
It freaked me out....

I turned it off to put some gas in the car, started it up and havent seen it since.
