Airbag light on (not passenger) [PIC]

I was driving to work earlier today and this indicator came on and didn't shut off until I turned off the car and turned it back on. That's the only time it has been on. During this the the passenger airbag illumination by the stereo was not lit.

From what I've read, if you have a light bag/object on the passenger seat, that disables the airbags there? If so, why wasn't THAT indicator lit? I also read there was a recall on 07/08 fits for the airbag system, but my carfax didn't show this; only a switch has a current recall on it.

I just bought this from a dealer, should I bring it up?

Thanks to all in advance!

Has it been in an accident previously?

I'd take it to the dealer and get an explanation. I would certainly not want the bag to pop in my face in error, lol.

That airbag light usually turns on upon start up and for a few seconds only. Shouldn't ever come up after that unless the bags have been deployed. It could also be from a loose connection to the airbags, or one of the sensors.

If you just bought it, YES bring it back, to at least document the issue.

Hopefully its not an issue either with accident damage or flooding.

My car occasionally does this when I put the rear passenger seat down, I think it must mess with the connection for the side airbags under the seat.

Im thinking this. I had my tool box on the seat when it would happen. Since I've been out of work (surgery) the light hasn't came on since.

I just got this and had the code read at my shop. They're saying I need a new curtain airbag inflator, for about $1100.

Anyone been through this? I have an 09 fit sport, 76,000 miles.

For that much $$$ I'd get a second opinion, for sure.

Look in your paperwork, what is the warranty on safety systems?

Or ask Honda Customer Service, 800-999-1009

Thanks. I phoned the dealer (spell "useless"), so that's next.

Ok, same cost at dealer, but Honda will review if I go there to consider out of warranty coverage. Thank you for your input. I'll try to remember to post outcome.

The dealer pulled the same code but went further with testing, and everything checks out. Maybe a short? If it comes back on I'll have to replace the part, and the dealer is now quoting about $200 more than last week. Lame explanation, but I'll fight that battle if it comes to it. Hopefully just a slightly pricey nonadventure.
