side airbag light, on & off???

Is it normal of the side airbag lights to turn on and off? I know the passenger airbag light turns on and off if you move based on a weight sensor. Any such thing for the side airbags?

I've had my side airbag off light come on before when my passenger was leaning too heavily against the door. As soon as they got out--the light went off.

I've been keeping an eye on the light, seems that if you don't sit properly or moving around the light turns on, I wonder if the light is on, do both side airbags turn off or just one side?

There is a special sensor in the back of the passenger seat that detects when someone is leaning towards the window such that their head is in the path of the side curtain airbag. The sensor will turn off the passenger side air bag and light the light. Works as designed.

According to internet legend, patent on the chip is held by Honda so they're the only ones who have it in their cars. The original design work was done by Motorola and one of the inventors is the guy who owns scangauge.

There may be one in the drivers side as well, I don't know for sure either way but I haven't seen any evidence of an airbag turning off when I lean towards the driver side window.

I've noticed that the light in the dash that says the pass. air bag is off will come on and go out, back on and out, seems to be more of an issue when I have a bunch of stuff in that seat, but it never comes on when the wife is going somewhere with me.

There is also a passenger airbag light in the instrument cluster, the only time that one has ever come on for me was recently I left my windows down and it rained like a mother... I would have to guess that the sensor got wet because the next week it was in the 90's and the car got aired out well and the light hasn't been back on.

The dash light (passenger airbag) works off the weight sensor in the bottom of the seat. The instrument panel light (side airbag) works off the sensor in the back of the seat.
