In FL.... you dont have to pay a deductible if you have full coverage. I had my windshield replaced.
My insurance company wanted to do a rock chip repair, I refused to have it done as it was right in my face.

I hated seeing the rock chip for the month I had to look at it.

Lots of insurance policies cover glass, period, no deductible. Double check with them.

ouch

too late for this time but you might want to talk to your ins company about lowering the comp deductable. I did and went from a $250 deduct to zero on 3 cars for about $40 a year.......

Policies vary but it never hurts to ask and maybe you'll be better off next time.

I asked after my third windshield in two years.....(not on a FIT). The next ws covered that rate change and then some.

{btw - this was b4 a recent reloation to FL where the deal is even better....for now}

You can have it filled temporarily by those guys with the awnings on any major street...they inject some glue or something and it really helps. Only maybe $50 to keep you from making it worse until you get the scratch together for a replacement.

I got a serious glass pit over a year ago and started a thread about it! Two weeks after that I got two more! For those two weeks I inquired with insurance to replace the windshield. They wonted to repair it since it was not cracked, just badly pitted. Man it is the size of a small volcano! All three of them! Well I decided to wait until it spreads and shatters. ROFL! It is still as it was the day it got damaged! No change even after all the car washing, temperature changes and icing over the winter! Go figure!
My deductible is $100 and I just can't wait for the darn thing to shatter!

Sorry to hear about your troubles man! Good luck!

Ivan

I don't know where you can go for a pit but I've had a chip filled before and it looked perfect. It was done at a car audio shop who had someone come in and do it. Contact a painless dent guy, maybe he might know somebody that is doing it.

Hey NJ, are coming to the BBQ this Sunday up in Fort Lee?

Don't feel too bad. My wife's Lexus GX470's windshield is....$1950+tax!!! Something about rain sensors and heating grid in the laminates cause the price...And the L badge!

Fortunately (for me) my bud's windshield broke first and he told me the price. In New Mexico insurance companies do not provide 'glass' insurance, so I lowered my deductible to $100. Costs me less than $40/year for the additional coverage YRMV.

Didn't know the Fit's glass was so dang much. Time to lower the deduct on the Fit too.

What he means is

if you have full coverage - including comp (versus just col' and PIP)

FL won't let insurance collect the deductable on a windshield, period, because the glass is considered a safety item or somesuch. SO even if your comp deduct is $500, a replacement windshield is a freebie....IF you have comp coverage.

And no, that don't necessarily apply in other states. I paid the deduct several times in VA before I changed my deductable; after moving there from FL....and now I'm happy to be in FL - as long as the storms stay away. Altho the extra cost of the zero deduct' is so little I haven't changed back..... I dunno about ALL the other states but of those I lived in over a 33 career in the USCG....moving about the country....only FL had this 'perk'...

22. My front windshield was broken. I have comprehensive coverage with a deductible. Will I have to pay the deductible before the company pays for the replacement of my windshield?
No. Florida Statute 627.7288 states that the deductible shall not apply to windshield damages.

Yeah, glass coverage is only available in a handful of states, otherwise it's covered under your comprehensive coverage. I write policies in 50 states for a major insurer, so this comes up a lot. With us, in states w/o glass coverage, if it can be repaired w/o replacing the glass, it's covered in full, but if it needs replacing then the deductable applies. Some companies may modify this somewhat here and there, but we seem to be the norm w/ most other companies. I don't remember all the states w/ glass cvg off the top of my head, but definitely Florida, Arizona, Massachusetts, New York, and probably just a couple more after that.
