Cable or Chains?

Hello all,

I don't plan on relying on them in everyday driving. It would be something where I might get stuck and I need to get from point A to point B. So for someone just doing your boring everyday driving, what would be the difference between cable or chains in getting through the snow? Other than one being lighter and smaller for packing away, what is the advantages and disadvantages in getting?

Let me start

Cables - lighter, cheaper, less traction available, easier to put on, can pass for "chain requirement".

Chains - heavier, more expensive, more traction available, harder to put on, pass GO as long as the roads are open.

Does it ever "Snow" in Sacramento California?
My dad lived there for a few years, and would call me up all Winter bragging about how it was 75 degrees and sunny.

Until after a few years he got tired of it always being 75 degrees and sunny,

It was funny, at first he was bragging about how great the weather was....but after a few years? He was desperate for some real seasonal change.

Lol, I don't think I would get tired of that!! Maybe I would miss the seasons since I have always had them but I think I would get used to it when I can go for a nice drive in the middle of February.

Well to answer your question, yes it does, or did snow in Sacramento! I was actually here when it did! It didn't just melt after it hit the ground either. Granted you would look real silly with chains and driving around, but I'm thinking of heading east. Looks like I can make it to snow on one tank - snow map of NorCal

Actually that's part of the reason I'm in Sacramento now. I was in Long Beach, CA and it got rather boring with the lack of weather there (there for over 25 yrs). There were no seasons there! It just got a little warmer in the summer and a little cooler in the winter.
