2008 with manual tranny, I lost the ability to shift and upon first inspection thought it was the shifter cables. Well as my luck has it, it happened to be the shift lever itself.
Has anyone experienced this issue and if so do you have to open the tranny to replace this part? I did not see an easy way to do this from the top.
Thanks in advance.

So currently the transmission is in neutral and I can start the car, when I removed the shift lever I did notice the bolt and the other threaded half of the lever and the interlock.
I attempted to try and remove the interlock with no luck, I am not sure if these parts can be removed from this service port. I guess I need to purchase a service manual.
I have never had an issue like this and don't even understand how this could have happened... The next step is to drop the tranny, I was just hoping there was an easier route.
Service manual does not specify details beside these two diagrams. Not sure if dropping tranny will make removal easier unless the shift fork slider shaft jammed inside and caused the lever to break. PM me your email I'll try to send you M/T section in pdf
