Replaced fuel injectors and Fit won't keep idling now

The engine codes indicated that I might need to replace my Fit's fuel injectors or catalytic converter, but the signs pointed to fuel injectors. It would die at the first couple of stop signs, first just when it was cold and then when the temperature was warmer.

I recently changed the oil pan on my F150, which was pretty difficult, and the fuel injectors looked like it would just be time consuming. I set aside an entire day, but after I got everything put back together, the car won't keep running.

It will start, rev fast a couple of times, and then the tachometer drops to zero. The purge valve broke during the process (or was already broken), but if I disconnect that, it does the same thing. One of the hoses from the air intake seemed to be stretched, so I put a new hose on. The car still does the same thing. I'm at a loss.

I will admit that the car has 280,000 miles, but being a Honda, I thought I could get it to 350,000.

Last time the valve adjustment was performed? How old are the plugs?

What made you think it needed new fuel injectors? If it was misfire codes, probably not fuel injectors. If you were getting cat efficiency codes, likely needed O2 sensors.

Injectors and the cat last a really long time on these cars. Proper maintenance like valve adjustments and spark plug changes usually get them to stupid high miles.

I changed the plugs shortly after 200,000 miles, and I think the coil packs are less than two years old. I thought I needed new injectors because the car was stalling at stop signs right after starting it. I ended up taking out the new injectors and then cleaning the old ones to put back it. That solved the idle problem, so the new injectors must not have been the right ones (even though I double-checked the numbers). But the check engine light came back on.

I have never had a valve adjustment done, but would that trigger the check engine light?

A couple of other guys thought I should check the ignition switch, but one of those guys was convinced the purge valve was the problem. I replaced that part (which was broken), but it was not until I put the old injectors back in that the car would idle.

Tight exhaust valves can cause P0172 code.

Valve adjustments are due every 60k miles on the GD Fit. If you've gone 280,000 miles without one, your exhaust seats are probably shot and maybe the valve guides as well.

If you tried to use cheap aftermarket injectors, they probably aren't as good as your high mile OEM ones.

If your plugs have close to 80k miles on them, they are also due for changing.

It seems to me that you expect the engine to go to 350k miles, but aren't doing the maintenance called for by the Maintenance Minder system which is already very lenient on maintenance needs.
