Key Issues

I am attempting to buy a new key for my 2008 Fit. I was told by the dealer that it was chipped key and would cost $240 to replace. I don't think my key is chipped. I completely smashed the fob section of the key and removed all of the circuitry from it, and the car still starts perfectly fine. I have nothing but the key and an empty plastic shell. Does anyone know if there were any non-chipped models? Where might I look to find one cheaper? There is no way I will pay that much for a key on a 12 year old car.
