Failed power steering, speedometer/odometer, plus some warning lights

Howdy,
New here, so thanks for any help you might offer. I have a 2007 Fit Sport Manual. A while back, the speedo started intermittently jumping briefly to much higher speeds. Accompanying this was surges in the power steering. Here's the basic rundown what happened next:

Initial Symptoms:
Occasional sporadic surging of the speedometer accompanied by variations in electric power steering assist. No warning lights or codes.

Repair 1:
Replace vehicle speed sensor (VSS)
Result: Total loss of speedometer/odometer function, loss of power steering function, check engine light, power steering light. Code for VSS.

Repair 1B: Remove new VSS, reinstall original.
Result: Continued loss of speedometer/odometer function, loss of power steering function, check engine light, power steering light.

Repair 2 (different shop): Replace VSS.
Result: Continued loss of speedometer/odometer function, loss of power steering function, check engine light, power steering light. Code for VSS.

The second shop is now suggesting replacing the instrument console. I'm skeptical.

Have any of you experienced anything like this? If so, do you have recommendations on what direction to go with it?

Thanks!

Sounds to me like you have a general power problem. You can try and start the car and disconnect the battery. If your car dies then it’s running off the battery and your alternator is not doing its job.

perhaps check your grounds or look for some kind short. Could it be a bad relay? Maybe check the pertinent fuses?

Get a schematic and follow the (+12V) lines that are common with those modules, fuses, etc. Right it might be just a loose 12V post or Ground.
