Power steering warning light came on...

2012 GE8 117K, owned since new. I had the p/s warning light light pop up for a minute tonight while it was idling, then it went off after moving for a few feet. Just wondering if any of you have experinced the same. Don't tell me to check the power steering pump or fluid though .

Read some of the posts at the bottom of this page under "related topics".

Those other threads don't really seem to have solutions. Still worth a look for mr.OP.Here's a recent thread started by tbearfit where in trying to resolve a misfire and terrible running behavior, it's remarked that power steering is restored in post #8

It would seem that other systems that don't appear associated can impact functionality of the steering system. If your only issue is power steering, that'd be a different animal I think. I can pull up procedures for troubleshooting if you'd like. I'd just add the asterisk that when one goes about probing wires for resistance and so on, some parts may be slightly out of spec. It's been my experience that some OEM parts come off the shelf out of spec with the manual and still work just fine. EX: AC compressor field coil.

Some times these "related topics" offer answers for people with similar problems and sometimes they don't. In the case of the op today, the second "related topic" down on this page titled- "power steering went out"- in the second post there, a member stated that his power steering went out and his solution was finding a loose battery cable, and tightening it, that fixed the problem for him.

Related topics are helpful if members that post here about having a problem and asking for help, will in the end, post when/if they figure it out. Or even if they weren't able to figure it out themselves, they took it to a shop for repair. Posting the final outcome that resolved their issue is helpful/useful information for the forum. This adds to the collective information available on the forum. These follow through posts really are important and help others having similar problems learn what led to a repair.

In the end, the "related topics" function is an automatic forum search of related topics to a post asking for help in solving a problem. Using the forum search button will accomplish the same thing too.

I shall look at the related posts. Thank you for the suggestions. I know most of the issues with our cars by heart, but I was surprised to see that light come on.

My issue seemed to be the battery - no troubles since the battery was replaced. The engine was misfiring so poorly so maybe not charging the battery enough and triggered the power steering?
