The rubber underneath my parking brake tore

So today I decided to armor all the inside of my car and when I got to the console I noticed that the rubber under my parking brake had torn (or well cracked. it is fairly stiff rubber...). The car is not even a year old yet. Think Honda will cover this? It is about ready to fall off too, not good at all... Should I just pull it off so that it doesnt fall down in and cause some damage?
If honda does, would I have to take it to my dealership or could I just go to any? The one I bought the car at is well over 300 miles away from me.

Thanks

any dealer. and mine broke with less than 1k miles on the car. the first week it got cold here in maryland mine cracked then fell off. i believe its happened to most people who have fits in cold climates. they should replace it. if it were me i would just get a mugen brake boot cover, youll never see the missing piece under it. and they will just continue to crack if replaced.

Thanks for the reply

thats fine. i just want it fixed, but am open for suggestions. you would think they would make it with softer rubber then. Does anyone else have a solution?

I have the same problem. I am going to mention it when I get my next free oil change. I just hope that they don't give me trouble because of my JDM center console.

I could just imagine them claiming that the console was the problem.

There is also a knockoff leather cover floating around on eBay. It appears to cover the area you're talking about. I can't find one right now, but it sells for around $20.

Well I do not care how it is fixed, just that it gets fixed. If you do find it can you please post a link?

I got a look at the Mugen one, and this one is a knockoff of it. Ehhh... It may not cover the rubber that's part of the center console. They come up from time to time and if I see one I'll post.

The dealership said that they would replace it under warranty and that they see it all the time.

so it is now fixed, but when they fixed it they put my center console in crooked and there is now an inch gap between the console and the dash and they broke the piece that snaps in under the ebrake lever, but didnt tell me that they had done so. needless to say i am pissed and will be calling them soon.

aghhh that sucks. i have NEVER brought ANY car into ANY dealership without it receiving some damage while in their hands. i don't get it, why can't their employees just be careful? they're always cracking trim pieces, breaking clips, putting scratches, and all kinds of careless things. and if you call them out on it they even try to deny it sometimes. good luck, i hope they treat you the way they should have the first time.

Well, after my free oil change today, I had them look at my parking brake. They did not even question me about the JDM console and scheduled an appointment for two weeks from now to replace the e-brake under warranty. Maybe the service adviser had never seen a JDM console, or maybe the OEM look of it made him look past it.

common problem on our cars. there was at least one older thread about it:
https://www.fitfreak.net/forums/fit-...ke-handle.html

mine's broken too, split, not completely off the last time I checked. haven't bothered to bring it in.

Just as a follow-up, my parking brake handle was replaced under warranty today.

No one mentioned anything about my JDM center console, which was a relief to me. I imagine that they see so few Fits and that it has that OEM look, it didn't cross their mind. That or they just didn't care.

hey mine cracked too yesterday in the cold. lol im going to put some
EZ felt just above the area that snapped off and just cover the opening that way.

it'll most-likely crack again in the cold if they just replaced it. it was -8F yesterday.

this morning it was below -12F (windchill below -28F) and no further crackage.

I let the parking brake down tonight to go home and SNAP!

I thought, oh crud I just read this thread.

Yup. It happened. Broke completely off.

What was wrong with the floppy corrugated vinyl they put in the older civics? That NEVER broke.
