When fuel light comes on, how many gallons left?
By my calculations I'm getting an average of 1.1 gallons left when the fuel light comes on. Even with 27mpg (I get 31 min) this turns out to a minimum of 29 miles left before you are SOL

I could see that. I usually drive 10 miles before filling and I only fill to the first shutoff on the gas pump ... so it seems reasonable. I'll stick with my numbers since they're conservative.

I don't know for sure since I have never tested it. Longest I have gone after the light came on was about 20 miles and that was getting roughly 28 mpg so that wouldn't have even been a gallon.

My rule of thumb will be to get gas within 30miles of the light coming on or 20 if I'm feeling nervous

With the way gas prices have been I always fill up half a tank so I can take advantage of gas prices when they are cheap and if gas prices go up I will be able to fill up before they jump up too much. I will probably do this until gas prices stablize.

I must have missed that. Is it in the Fit's manual? I'm gonna check later

Not sure if the FIT manual says or not. Not all manuals say. I guess they do not want you to push it. I read the FIT manual front to back when I first got it like all new cars I buy. I do not remember seeing it though. It is worth checking again though.

The manual says 1.7 like stated above, and I find this to be accurate for the most part. I average 30 mpg, so I know when it comes on I'm good for about 50 miles (under normal driving conditions) and I've pushed it pretty far before because the nearest station was quit a bit aways.

I've watched the fuel light come on, and looked immediately at my scangauge's "miles to empty" and "gallons to empty." the fuel light definetly comes on just under 2.0 gallons, never earlier, and that usually gives me around 60 miles to empty.

I think its about 1.7 or 1.8 from what I can remember the manual saying.
The longest I've driven after light came on was 60 miles when I couldnt find a gas station on my way to arizona!!

The 'reserve' mentioned in the manual is "once the needle reaches the 'E' mark", not once the 1.7 gallons is used up. The farthest I've traveled after the light came up was 63 miles. Of course, I had been averaging a little better than 45 mpg that tank, too. When my light comes on, I estimate mileage, then figure that against 1.5 gallons to see just how far I can go before I have to fill up. I'm guessing that I an extra three miles out of that tank just squeezing the steering wheel, rocking back and forth, and chanting 'c'mon baby'.
