Any known transmission Issues?
Hi guys, my name is Sean and I just registered to this forum today. I just bought an '07 Fit Sport, Auto. Really wanted the manual instead but that's a different story. Just wanted to know if you've heard of any Auto tranny problems with the Fit in the couple years it's been in existence over here in the US. I want to make sure I can use the paddle shifting w/o breaking the tranny. I'm coming from a 99 Prelude that had the Sequential Sport Shift as well, but Honda made horrible Auto tranny's for the prelude and I replaced that one. Looking forward to gaining knowledge from the forum. Thanks in advance.

Only thing I have heard of has been a stuttering/hiccup problem. Just from a few people though...

Thanks guys.
With mine I've noticed that the downshifting to lower gears when braking from like 60 mph isn't as smooth as I though it would be. I can really feel it shifting down. Is it like this for anyone else? Or, just how this tranny feels?

I have always felt the down shifts more in this car than others that I have owned. It may be due to the light weight of the car, and thus it is more easily slowed. It also may be that this tranny shifts quicker than others also. This is a fully electronic controlled tranny, and I think it shifts both up and down faster than most other autos.

Alright, yeah the upshifting feels pretty solid except for 1st to 2nd but still shifts at the right time. It really does feel like a manual downshifting. I'm driving and I'm like okay 5th, okay I feel 4th, okay I feel 3rd, so on and so on.

but other than that. I haven't heard of any real issues with the a/t

mine dont always shift down to 1st. Normally it stays in 2nd. If i come to a complete stop sometimes it still stays in 2nd. But im cool with that, its actually a smoother launch.
It might be cos i modified the engine with my bolt ons and ECU but i doubt it!

I'm paranoid about the transmission since my last car was a 2001 Civic Coupe with automatic transmission and it had to be replaced after like three and a half years and then it started dying again at 7 years when I traded it in for the Fit. Cost around $3,500 to replace. I'm crossing my fingers, since the AT transmission for the NA market hasn't been in any of the other Fits around the world so far as I know, it's only been around a couple years so it's way too early to know how well they hold up. If I'm wrong and it's been on other versions before the US 2007 model correct me, though...

If you are referring to a slight jerk when downshifting I know what you are talking about. Right after you pull the downshift paddle quickly "blip" the throttle. It'll take a bit of practice but doing this will make the gear's engagement seem less noticeable, at least to me it does.

If the trans ratios are the same along with the shift points, both sport and base trans should up shift into 5th at 40 MPH (~64 KM/H). Of course, a variable to that would be throttle position along with the engine load.

After reading these responses I feel much better. I mean I do have 52K and it's a 2007. The owner before me did put massive miles on it. It's a Honda though and mines covered bumper to bumper to 100K so no worries.
It does seem like the tranny is always trying to find the right gear to be in. It feels a little weird on the highway, like it's constantly downshifting and upshifting.

Only known transmission issue I know of concerns its supports...they can get shredded or destroyed when driving over bad roads a lot. It's happened to a number of people here.
Warranty will cover that, though.

Supports as in the Transmission mounts? That would make sense.
When I got home yesterday, I put the tranny in park and the car shuddered. So, then I kept switching it to all the different gears, P, N, R, N, R, P, N, R to duplicate the shudder and it did it everytime. It's like the car shakes a little bit going into each gear. Not when driving, just when shifting into gears at a standstill. I've had the car since Saturday but just noticed it yesterday.

That is because whenever the gears like reverse or drive is engaged it puts a load on the engine which is pretty much normal for autos.
If you want to try an obvious way to see this, start your Fit while the engine is cold and just shift it from Park to Drive or Sport? Whenever you do take note at how the RPMs will go from 1500 to 5-600 RPMs and the engine almost stalls then goes up to 800 RPMS; which again, is caused by the gear engagement.
