Noise at 3300 rpm

My engine is making an odd sound right around 3300 rpm, and only when turning at that speed. If the revs are increasing or decreasing, it makes the sound momentarily as it passes through that rpm. If I hold the revs steady at 3300, it makes the noise continuously. It's hard to describe - not really a gurgling, not really a roaring, almost like the sound of a coffee percolator but not exactly. It just seems to sound different only in that one rpm band, like something is vibrating maybe. It's not loud but definitely noticeable. Any ideas what it could be? Anybody else notice this too?

That is right around the point that VTEC kicks in. Does it happen when when car is in park/neutral? Is it auto or manual trans?

you can hear it only when turning, can you feel any vibration in the steering wheel? chances are you've got a failing wheel bearing .. i'm afraid that i may be experiencing the same problem but mine is VERY faint so i might be able to prolong the inevitable and save some money for a replacement once it finally craps out.

my GF's WRX was making the same sound that got gradually louder as it got worse. before we replaced the wheel bearings i could only describe the sound as you did, like a percolating coffee pot. my buddy's GTI just experienced a catastrophic wheel bearing failure over the weekend; he pulled the wheel off, removed the brake caliper, off came the rotor, and he said the wheel bearings spilled out ... nothing to laugh about, really. just a few examples of what 'could' happen if you don't fix it soon.

chances are your experiencing the resonant frequency of the heat-shield on your exhaust. Mine does this at 2500rpm, only solution is to remove the heatshield or learn to live with it

Can't be a wheel bearing; it makes the noise even in neutral with the car stopped. Vtec change would be a single event, wouldn't it? - it wouldn't be a continuous sound while holding at that rpm I don't think. If it's just a heat shield vibration I can definitely live with it; just didn't know if the noise was something to be concerned about.
