I still haven't driven my Fit to redline yet so I wanted to know if you could actually hear VTEC engage and at what RPM?

 

Yeah, you can hear it a little, but it's not too distinct in my opinion. It comes in at about 3400 rpm. Slight jump in the pitch of the motor when it engages.

im not sure if my car even came with vtec....

 

i think it kicks in before 3400 if you are accelerating, but it is always on above 3400 rpm regardless of throttle position.

 

its heard best with an intake and exhaust

I guess it will def. be more noticeable with the intake. It's too bad they didn't make the Fit motor DOHC. I would took 5 MPG less for the extra ponies. I was just reading that with the SOHC setup, only the intake is affected. So, more air in, yes, but not as efficient on the way out.

 

Ahhh, the good old H22A4 had a monster cross over. The sound was just incredible. People always thought that I did some kind of mod to make it do that!

 

actually not really noticable even with intake when vtec kicks in.
the vtec actually kicks in pretty low on this car in the
2800rpm range if your throttle angle is fairly open.

i use to run the H-Fit intake which was great, but
i went back to stock. stock intake isn't bad at all.

 

on this engine vtec is not set at a specific rpm like the old hondas in fact it is a different 'kind' of vtec altogether.
several engine parameters are considered by the computer, such as load, current rpm, throttle position etc, before the computer decides when to engage vtec
vtech can come on as low at 2500 and on flat ground is always on when going about 60mph or more (man trans),
it interesting to see 'what it takes' to turn vtec on or keep it off if you have a vtec light

 

My b16 has a pretty killer crossover, miss that, too.....till I go out and drive her again.

Getinafit shows how to make a VTEC engaged indicator light. Not hard to do, just takes some creativity in the routing of the wires and drilling a hole to mount the LED. The DIY starts on page 2

 

The L15A motors have a kind of VTEC that's very different from the 3-lobe cam system you're used to seeing on H- and B-series motors.

The L-series' VTEC, like other recent SOHC VTEC systems, is basically an intake valve shutdown system. Below the "VTEC point" (so to speak), only one intake valve is used. Once you engage the system, both valves open up and do their job.

Bah. Who cares? It's a gas saving vtec, not a performance/horsepower one. No need to pee your pants at the sound of vtec "engaging".

Have you ever been in an H series engine when VTEC kicks in? It's very, very nice. I love the sound so much and so do thousand of other Honda enthusiasts out there. Like I said in another thread, I would take an MPG decrease just to hear that sound, even on an auto, I don't care.

That's what seperates the newBs from the true engine enthusiasts. You want to hear sounds. I want to feel power and torque.

The fit is a gas saver. Plain and simple. It will never be confused with speed or power. So you can listen and hear that vtec crossover all you want...you'll be getting smoked either way.

 

Wow, you don't even know me and your bashing, okay. Uh lets see, the standard VTEC setup on the H22 produced most of it's torque at the VTEC engagement point. It's not just a sound, it where a nice chunk of power comes from. How will I be getting smoked if I'm not racing anyone?? Confused by your whole post.
