Best tires for 17" shoes?
Best tires for 17" shoes?
Hi guys, I'm thinking of getting new shoes for my Fit. My question is what is the best tire size for a 17" wheels? I was thinking of going with 205/40R17 but I'm not sure if this will be the best. I don't want to end up rubbing. Thanks guys.
tried both 205/40x17 and 195/40x17 the 195's are best all around tires for the street.
If you are concentrating on corner carving the 205/40 is better but not for acceleration or mpg. And my wife can't tell the difference in ride between the two.
215's are good for cornering but very heavy at the tread and reduce mpg and accel even more. And don't fit here.

Whoa, there are 195/40R17 tires? First time I've heard of such a size, they aren't offered here. Kindly excuse me for being genuinely amazed
Most of the people who run 17s on their GDs here use 215/40R17 to keep the speedo reading fairly consistent...FYI

Check Tirerack and DiscountTireDirect. We have 195/40x17 S-Drives and they are doing well. Even on track.
The heavy 215/40's hang too big a handicap on acceleration and mpg to suit me.
And the speedometer difference for 195/40x17 is 3.7 %, or 2.2 mph at 60 mph for 09. Reads 62 mph at true 60 mph.(1.23 %, or ,8 mph on 08's - reads 61 mph at true 60) so we don't see where 215's have any advantage as the range of error on stock speedo's is about 1 to 2% anyway.
That is going to be a tough Fit (Trust me!!)
I would suggest going with a 195/40R17 (more choices than the 45 profile tires)

There are a few brands that make this size, I ran them on my 17's to avoid rubbing and I had even more positive offset than you!
I ran Continental ContisportContact2's in that size; they were a fantastic touring/performance tire! quiet on the highway, good in the rain & very sticky.

Hi do you know if the wheel with 40 off set will rub like the wheel with off set 42?
The offset you should be shooting for is +45 or higher. To avoid rubbing problems you want the wheels tucked inside the rear fenders - and +45 is just about the magic number for that.
Granted there are a few +42 offset wheels that work, but +45 is a proven hassle-free offset for GD Fits.
I have 17x7.5 offset +45 with 205/40/17 and it rubs the front fenders. I had to get it rolled at AJR.
It depends on how low you want your car. I have less than a finger gap at the front.
215/40 or 215/45 will definitely rub unless you camber your wheels.

The ones that have been tried here all rubbed; 45 mm offset is safest and most get away with 42 but most don't with 40 mm offsets.
We'll agree with that. Two 200 lb in back seat will rub on bumps UNLESS you install AirLift shocks (see suspension posts). And improve handling as well if you reduce understeer
I started up an index of lightweight +45 or more rims; have a look

Thanks man. I already removed the wheel on my list. I did not want to have future problems. I'll just search for another set of wheels.
