i know it could be a pain in the waa-hoo taking pics while wrenching on your car but a DIY would be greatly appreciated

Have you ever done a clutch job before? If not, don't try and rush the job, take your time & allot yourself an extra day to finish if something doesn't go to plan.

Get yourself the following:
-A service manual
-A second set of hands
-A good jack and set of jack stands
-A tranny jack
-A clutch centering tool (I've not had much luck with the cheap plastic ones you get with a new clutch)
-An accurate torque wrench
-A spare vehicle in case you have to make an emergency run for parts/tools

And will you be resurfacing the flywheel or replacing it? A lightweight aluminum flywheel would be a great addition to this car, in my opinion. Make sure you've got blue loctite on hand for the flywheel bolts.

has anyone had any issues with the spec clutch on the fit?

I don't want to make anyone nervous here. They had been an institution on the previous cars' platform, but all their clutches for us have had a 98% failure rate who's bought from them in the past 2-3 years.
another Spec Stage 3+ failure - CEG Forums
[one example, seen the same from some other groups]

I have an older spec stage 1 in my other car and LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT. That thing grips like hell. Your going to get good at rev matching REALLY quickly. I just took my other car around the neighbor hood for the first time in a few months and it was a drop kick in the ass... and a hella lotta fun.

I'm curious to hear where the engagement is in the pedal travel for the specs on the Fit. For my other car, it put it at the final 1/8" exactly where it should be and works like a light switch.

goodluck! don't forget the breakin procedure.

I feel your pain, I've had a car down for 2 years now thinking that something would be straight forward.... ya its a kick in the ass. but you'll definitely come out of this a wiser person. hey man, at least its an easy simple car to work on.

Order one today, you should have it before the weekend, and be armed with the answer to just about any question or how-to on your car that exists. www.helminc.com Changing a clutch with no experience and no help is possible - I did it on my Prelude, which with it's ATTS (and much heavier transmission) is a lot trickier car to do the job on.

Oh, and you're gonna have a real tough time pulling the tranny with the car on ramps. Get it up on jackstands, as high as possible to give yourself enough clearance to get the tranny out from underneath. Just make sure it's level when you put tranny fluid back in.
