Transmission drain and refill

I'm pushing 42555 miles on my Fit with the auto transmission (base model), and was wondering at what mileage should I drain the trans and refill it with fresh OEM fluid? It doesn't seem to shift as smooth as before, but maybe it's just in my head. Any recomendations? And is it difficult to do on these cars?

curious to find out when - does the owner's manual say anything about changing it?

Honda's online Owner Link is a great resource to find answers to these kinds of questions.

Maintenance Minder 3 Scheduled Maintenance
Recommended service for your 2008 Honda Fit:

Replace transmission fluid
Driving in mountainous areas at very low vehicle speeds results in higher transmission temperatures. This requires transmission fluid changes more frequently than recommended by the maintenance minder. If you regularly drive your vehicle under these conditions, have the transmission fluid changed at 60,000 miles (100,000 km), then every 30,000 miles (48,000 km). (For A/T only)
If you tow a FIT behind a motorhome, the transmission fluid must be changed every 2 years or 30,000 miles (48,000 km), whichever comes first. (For A/T only)

Independent of maintenance message in the information display, replace the brake fluid every 3 years.

Inspect idle speed every 160,000 miles (256,000 km).

Adjust the valves during services A, B, 1, 2, or 3 only if they are noisy.

Hope this helps.

It's a piece of cake. It has a drain plug on the side of the case that fits a 3/8" ratchet and a short dipstick on top. (my personal technique) Drain, refill to lower line, start up and shut down, check and make sure still to lower line, drive 5 miles at various speeds, shut down, wait 30 seconds, check and adjust fluid level if necessary (then recheck).

Typically on a Honda the window to check is when it's hot, 30 to 90 seconds after shutting the car off in Park.

Heck on one of the old civics for a while I did it with every oil change because it was a used car and the fluid looked terrible. Just make sure to use ATF Z1 fluid from Honda.

Dang thats a little late, by that time it's really not smooth anymore. I'm at 40k and I want to change it but haven't had time to do it myself. Dealer was asking me for $80 + tax/recycle. I think every 20-30k is a good reference point.

The dealer said the fluid "looks dirty" but they didn't recommend a change yet. So I guess cuz I'm just a few months away from a change still.
