Un-Fit after 39K

Like most people, we bought Hondas based on their rep. for reliability. My wife and I drove new '84 and '95 Civics, both manual transmissions, for 12 yrs. each with no unforseeable problems. Great! As for our 2007 Fit Sport...? The manual transmission needed replacing at 39K. At the same time we were told the front axle was broken. Also, at 34K the starter had to be replaced. In addition, there was the faulty wire harness recall a while back. Honda tells us we were at fault for the transmission. I reminded them, to no avail, that we have over 25 years experience driving Honda stick. Lived in the same place since '84, same driving conditions and avg. miles per yr. The car's the only variable. Whatever we're saving on gas, we're paying triple for unreliability. Won't buy another Honda! One other issue, not related (and not Honda's fault): Woke up to find a large hole in our front bumper. Body shop told us someone stole the flare! (The piece of trim on the Sport model and not on the base model.) Said he never saw this before. So, the whole bumper ruined for one thin piece of plastic.

Yikes, that is quite the story. So let me ask you one question. Looking at your number of posts on this site, which is 1 (this one). Did you become a member of this forum just to air out you dramatic chain of events that have lead to the Fit being the worst car you aparently have ever owned? What was the problem w/ the transmission that required you to replace the whole thing? I really don't understand why you would need a whole new transmission. I have also driven on a manual transmission for about 15 years (including a 99 Civic w/ 140,000 miles) and the only work I have had done was have the clutch replaced. If you shared your experience w/ what happened to the transmission to cause it's failure you may be able to help another member with an issue they are having.

I can understand your surprise, since I used the wrong term- transmission- instead of clutch. We've never had an entire transmission replaced. We were accused of driving the car incorrectly. Again, my wife and I have over 25 years experience in driving Honda manuals. Like you, we've had clutches replaced but only after 100K+ miles. No, the Fit is not the worst car I've owned, it's the Honda with the most problems. I thought I'd get a little sympathy, not anger. Think about if this were happening to you.

so you came on here, made a name, just to bitch about how you're having problems with the car. apparently there doesn't seem to be anyone else with this issue so maybe its just you and your car.

To be honest, I've never posted anything anywhere in my life, and I'm learning the hard way how not to do it. Anyway, take my experience for what it's worth. The Fit's a relatively new car here, and now that we're putting miles on them these problems may begin to pop up. By the way, do people really post in order to make a name for themselves? That would be sad.

Wow.........
I traded in my 07 with 38K on it and it was as perfect as the day I bought it (except for some small stone chips on the f bumper)

yeah thats why we're all here so we can make a name for ourselfs on a internet forum so we can impress people we don't know and will never see. no we're all here to help eachother and try to give the best input. but you're acting like this kind of stuff never happens, but just pay for your shit to get fixed, stop crying about it and get on with life. you're pretty much like i've owned a honda for over 25 years so i know everything about them. look man, sometimes shit happens. just get over it and stop bitching saying that its hondas fault for everything.

and wtf is a flare? do you mean the front lip? or the piece that covers where the front tow hook is suppose to go. and also if they have a recall on a wire harness they replace it for free. so if you had to pay then sucks to be you

You aren't the first person to report a fragile Fit clutch. My wife eats clutches, so we went with an AT, and I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

The guy at the body shop called it a flare. I was confused too until I compared the bumper of the Sport model with the base model.

Good strategy, make everyone else (who didn't say anything rude to you) feel like you're attacking them and the whole site.

Buck up, you can say what you want around here but until you get a few posts under your belt everyone will troll you no matter what you have to say (almost).

Ok, ok. Sorry to jump on your case so quickly eddie.b but it is true that some people make one post and start a bitch fest because they think it's funny. Then they suddenly disappear from the forum never making a second post. If your going to vent frustration thats fine, I suppose it just wasn't a good way to use a first post.

Having said that, I really hope you get good service from your dealership. How much was the replacement on the clutch with the labor? Thats good info to share just in case some one on the forum is in the same situation. I know what you mean about supprise issues on a relatively new car. My wife's 96 Mustang GT has only 57k miles on it. It slowly leaks transmission fluid, the interior is falling apart, the stereo system and CD player died and the last time I changed the oil I noticed one of the front axel boots was leaking lube. Frustrating.

There are a lot of people on here with a great amount of experience working on the Fit and if you have questions, ask away.

Uh oh, I have a problem with my '09 Fit clutch. the clutch doesn't activate until it is almost all the way out. I'm having a tough time learning to shift, being used to engagement at 3/4's out. Looks like I need to get my self to Honda and start a paper trail. The clutch has never slipped though. I just thought maybe it was supposed to be that way, you can sure shift faster only having to push the clutch in an inch to change gears. I've got 13,000 miles on the car

What's up die_lawn?

Having problems at home or something?

Maybe the guy was just wondering is anyone else had the same issues.

Every brand has issues with some cars.

Even though you are a "Senior Member" you should not be banging this guy for a simple post.

Since you are a "Senior Member", you should act like one...

It may say up there he's a "Senior Member" but if you look at his join date it shows he's still somewhat of a newb. Also, the *real* "Senior Members" usually act like pricks anyway.

The way I see it is, not even Honda is immune to building a lemon or two. I'm sure there are some Civics, Accords, or CRXs that ran like crap compared to the rest. For one, my uncle had a Civic for about 6 months and when his transmission blew, the dealer told him that it was his fault because they know how people street race and rev the engine to red line all the time... My uncle is pushing 50 years old and they accused him of being a street racer!!!
So you got a bad car, should you really use that one experience to turn you away from Honda after 25 years? That's crazy. Just read what everyone else has posted, it's not like every Fit has these problems. Chock it up to bad luck.
