What do I need to be Xenon ready?

Wanting to make my headlights Xenon and my fog lights a bright blue. Think all I need for fogs are bulbs. Not sure about Xenons. I'm not the best motörhead. With my 03 Mini Cooper S, I only did so much that I knew how.

So if y'all could point me in the right direction, that'd be great.

You need a car!

hahaha, j/k! you need to get an H4 and H11 HID kits. H4 headlights, H11 fog lights. But honestly, no i am broke and haven't done it myself, but you need to get retrofitted headlights before HIDs

Many people seem to have problems with buying Chinese. I bought a bi-xenon upgrade kit off eBay, from Singapore, a couple of years ago, and love it. (Bi-xenon means that you have both high and low beam as HID. Some dealers falsely market just plain, blue colored bulbs as being xenon, or even HID. Stay away from those guys.
Here is a decent explanation on HID Xenon that I had to research to make sure I got what I wanted.
To be truly High Intensity Discharge Xenon, the kit must include ballasts. No ballast, it is not true HID. They have xenon gas in standard buls now, but it does not make them HID. HID is the key to super bright light. True HID uses only 35 watts of power and gives you roughly double the light over even a 130 watt, standard (non-ballast) bulb.

Bottom line: If you want true HID, and it to be functional for both high and low beam, you need to buy a kit that includes ballasts for each light and a bi-xenon bulb. Even foglights have to have ballasts, to be true HID. (I find that you don't really need high beams HID, and it is less expensive to just get plain HID xenon).

A proper kit for headlights will include light bulbs, two ballasts, and a wiring harness that mates directly to the stock wiring harness. (The temperature range quoted, will determine how "blue" your lights will be (not the color of the bulb. Blue colored bulbs are not true HID. All HID bulbs are clear in appearance.)
On temperature, I think 5300 degrees is the whitest light (you can look this up). From there, the higher the temperature, the blue'r the light. Note: white light is the brightest; many people feel that blue'r, looks better. It sounds like yo may like 8k or 10k temp for the "cool" factor, but find an ad that shows you the different temperatures visually so you can decide exactly how "blue", you may want to go.

As for foglights: Again, let me reiterate that a colored bulb does not give you that blue color that you seem to want. You will need a kit that includes ballasts for your foglights, just as with headlights. You may want to go 12k temp for the really blue/purple colored effect for your foglights.

I'm not 100% on the exact temperature colors but you can look up an ad that shows you pictures of the actual color, by temperature. There are other variations, such as projector. You can tell them by the big thick roughly 1.5 inch glass bulb, visually. Since you know Mini's, projector HID Bi-Xenon come as an option on newer Mini's also standard on the new C6 Corvettes. (Projectors come on many newer cars, as stock, but those are two cars I am familiar with.) Look at one with the option and you can easily see the difference in projectors vs plain (real) HID's. Projectors look really nice, but cost quite a bit more and don't really give you much more actual light brightness. If you have the extra funds, find a kit with projectors.
They are "pretty".

Hope this answers your question.

Try just getting the HID kit for the fogs first. A H11 35 watt kit is what you need, stick with the 3500-5500 kelvin temp range as this gives the best lighting performance (Not the neato torpedo bright blue look but it helps you see better at night) The kits are very straight-forward to install, I'm fairly certain there is a DIY on it in the lighting forum. As a side note go ahead and perform the independant foglight with OE switch mod while you are up-grading, it is one of the best things you can do to any Fit.

I don't know if this is going to help but I am trying to pull together a group buy for Projector HIDs. They are made by my uncle's firm so if anything happen, I can just send it back to him - which I assume is better than risking it on ebay.

Check out the postings I have on my seeking interest thread and I hope it helps.

Any questions, feel free to PM me.

uRabbit, Those group buys Guinness is running, look to be a really good deal. If yo have the funds, you should get in on this pricepoint. It would be hard to beat. You need to know the color temp you want in order to be satisfied. If you have the bucks for the projectors, they are slick looking. Based on what people are asking for, the 4300k temp bulbs are going to be the brightest. (That's what I have mainly because I am old and I need as much light as I can get.) To get that blue effect, it sounds like 6k or 8k should work for you. If you havve very little or no fog in your area, you may want to go with a higher temp for the blue color you are talking about. If you want the fogs to perform like fogs, you need to run the 3k, as the light more closely resembles the yellow fogs (I guess).
The Angel Eyes that they are talking about is a halo light circle that goes around the projector. It is a cute toy but has little functionality.
If I had the funds, I would jump on those projectors. Alas, all I can do is dream about it and hope another group buy comes around again when I can afford it. So anybody reading this thread and considering ultimate lighting, and you have the funds, you should jump on this deal Guinness is putting together. At the pricepoint, he can't be making anything on it himself; not that it matters, because it doesn't matter who gets the money as long as you get the quality product.
Man, I wish I could get those projectors,...

Thanks for the support~ And if you want the projectors, I suggest sign up first. I am trying to gather AS MUCH INTEREST AS POSSIBLE so I have the "bargain power" to talk to my uncle. If I can pull out like 40-60, who knows what the price is going to be?

Thanks for the explaination too, and like you said, 4300K is the brightest. Thats the color standard for all OEM HID vehicles (BMW, Benz.. you name it). Its will be white light with a hint of yellow, which replicates noonday sun.

I personally prefer the 6000K because its pure white with a little hint of blue... its not as bring as 4300K (3000 lumux compare to 2600lumux)... but it gives you a nicer look. While 8000K+ HID looks super stylish (like the ones you see in thr fast and furious), I do not recommend them because the higher the color temperature (K), the dimmer it gets. 8000K is blue, 12000K is purple... and so on... You will not be able to see well, if at all at night and in the rain - the only thing you will see are cops flagging you down =\

Man, I wish I could get those projectors,...

If only everyone on FF appreciate my effort (I was flamed the other day by some GE FF people...). My group buys are just there to create interest among the FF community, and then make it happen by seeking the right supplier. I ain't the middle man making money, I am just the guy who try to make things happen for everyone =\

BTW, I may be heading to Japan in Feb... another JDM group buy may be coming up =D

I found projector headlights on eBay. They are for USDM GE8 - 09/10 Honda FIT. However, they are a little bit pricey. I got mine for $260 including s&h. They come with 30 days money guaranty even I don't like them.

08 09 HONDA FIT JAZZ GE R8 LED HALO PROJECTOR HEADLIGHT:eBay Motors (item 200421524531 end time Jan-04-10 06:01:41 PST)

08 09 HONDA FIT JAZZ GE R8 LED BLK PROJECTOR HEADLIGHTS:eBay Motors (item 200421579551 end time Jan-04-10 11:01:07 PST)

My intension is to hook up angle rings to parking lights and LED as DRL. Currently, I have Bi-Xenon on stock headlights but DRL on the dashboard turn on. Since Bi-Xenon kit get power directly from the battery. Hi/lo controller connects to one side of headlight connectors. That is why DRL reports as faulty circuit.

Please keep in mind if you install any color temperature HID bulbs beside 4300K, police might pull you over.

Why not just do it like the Vancouver boys. Most of us have he fogs as DRL.

As for police pulling over... I dont know how popular HIDs are .. but we hardly get pulled up here... so long you drive like a normal regular human being (Not offending anyone)

Awesome info, guys! I'll look more into that group buy. Depending on when it goes down, I may or may not have the funds. Would be nice. Just put the brightest Silverstar Ultras in my car and not super excited about em but they do well for their gross coppery tint.

edit: Envious of Guiness's moonroof >.<
