This is the official email we recieved from Honda yesterday at my dealership.

"Honda has issued a recall for the previous generation 2007 and 2008 model-year Honda Fit, related to the master power window switch. In some very limited instances, when an extreme amount of liquid, such as rain or melted snow, floods the master power window switch in the driver’s door, it may result in a switch malfunction with a potential for overheating. We have confirmed seven reports of malfunctioning switches that resulted in overheating and two fires due to this cause in the U.S., with no reports of injuries in the U.S.
As we have just announced this recall, we will notify each customer by mail with instructions about how and when to have their vehicle inspected and updated at an authorized Honda dealer. If customers notice any malfunction with the master power switch in the driver's door, we encourage them to have their vehicle inspected as soon as possible. It is important for our customers to note that the current generation 2009 and 2010 model-year Honda Fit models are unaffected by this recall.
Outside of the U.S., there was one incident in South Africa that resulted in a fatality. Out of respect for the family involved, we will not comment further on this matter."

EDIT: To remove certain emails.

If it affects 140,000 in the US, you can bet you'll be getting a notice. How many 07-08 models were sold here?

I just had a car friend call me and tell me they saw the recall on the news tonight. I got right on Fit Freaks and yup there is already a thread on the recalls. There have only been three fires since the problem was isolated so Honda does it again, quick response and I am sure they will provide the fix as soon as possible. My 2007 was due for it's 15,000 miles check up anyway so I hope it happens soon. I am pretty careful with the interior of the car and I never leave the door open if it is raining or snowing. Just everyone remember to keep your GD3 arm rest dry and get it into the dealership when you get the notice to bring them in.

Hard to find that exact number, but as a number to work off of-
2006 - 27934 fits sold in US
2007 - 56432
2008 - 79794

Total: 164160

Now the GE went on sale Sept of '08 so some of that is GE sales.

Dec 08 Fit sales, the only month I can find: 5039

If they sold that many GE fits per month September to December, how many are left?

I have a nagging suspicion we ALL got recalled.

Its All GD3 Fits. Recall has not been released yet, just sent out notification of it. The recall should be released by March. I would rather a fire then a sticking throttle lmfao. I am leaving my window switch in untill it fails, nice to know I will get it replaced for free when it does go. Honda says the window should stop working before a fire starts. I have no worries about my window switch, it is right under your nose you should smell it burnning before anything serious happens.

FROM: American Honda Parts and Service Divisions
RE: 2007~2008 Fit Master Window Switch Melting

On January 27, 2010, American Honda announced a Stop Sale order and Safety Recall on all 2007~2008 Fit models. Any unsold units in used car inventory will need to be inspected and repaired.

Note: All 2007~2008 Fits in your inventory are affected by this recall. You should not sell these vehicles until they have been inspected and repaired. Should an unrepaired vehicle cause an injury or damage because of the recalled item, the dealership will be solely responsible to the damaged party, and will be required to defend and indemnify American Honda for any resulting claims. Any Fit in used car inventory sold prior to the posting of the Service Bulletin will require the application of the countermeasure parts.

Basic Problem
If the driver’s power window master switch is subjected to rainfall (window left open) or a beverage is spilled, liquid can enter the switch and migrate to the printed circuit board. The liquid can create a short circuit that will damage the printed circuit board or cause the switch to melt in a localized area.

Campaign Information
The Service Bulletin will be posted March 15th. The customer mailing will begin the next day March 16th. The daily customer mailings will increase as on-hand parts inventory increases.

Parts Information
The following parts will be used in this recall: protective skirt - 35751-SAA-305 and 35751-SAA-307, switch kit – 35752-SAA-406ZA and harnesses – 32751-SLN-A00 (Base) and 32751-SLN-A10 (Sport).

After inspection, a protective skirt will be installed or in a limited number of cases (less than 10%), a switch kit (switch and skirt) may be required. In a very limited number of cases (less than 1%), the harness may also need to be replaced due to corrosion.

Parts are available for open dealer ordering, except for the harnesses which are controlled parts.

Warranty Information
Warranty information has been provided in the Service Bulletin. Please use the exact claim coding when filing a claim to insure the system counts the vehicle repaired.

Are Canadian Fits Affected?????

I visited Honda Canada and they have absolutely nothing on any recalls. Although I heard on the news back in January that ALL North American models are affected. I also visited Honda US and the do have the recall notice on their website.

Does anyone know for sure if Fits in Canada are indeed affected by this recall?

My 2008 Fit just started having this problem today. The driver's side window stopped working. I thought the motor burned out and thought that was odd, till i seen this thread. I went to ownerslink, and in the recall section it had this:

Been waiting for a couple of months for this. I've been driving mine with duct tape covering mine. Plus, I've been driving with a fire extinguisher too.

Wow, but the thing for me was I'd pretty much be on the road most of the time. If it's like a raining day & I had to go through a drive thru, then that would be my only option other than just going in.
