Weird noise when backing up
Weird noise when backing up
Hey everyone. I was just curious if anyone has experienced this problem. My fit started making a funny noise when I back up and have the wheel turned (for example backng up into a parking spot). It does not make this noise when I back up going straight. The noise sounds like a rubber grinding noise. I have a 2007 fit automatic. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I'll see if I can get some video to show you what I am talking about.
Thanks in advance for your input.

are you sure it's a rubber grinding noise or more metallic? do you get the same sound when making turns at road speeds?.. so far, the only thing i can think of is that one of your wheel bearings could be going out.
If it isn't a tire rubbing on the inside of the fender liner it could be an outer CV joint..... I am more inclined to think a tire is rubbing if the steering is close to being fully locked in one or the other direction.
Mine does this as well, sometimes at full lock to the right, in reverse it feels like the front wheels are almost jumping. maybe not jumping but perhaps locking almost, whatever it is I've just stopped putting the wheel to full lock while in reverse.
Better start shopping for outer CV joints..... Full throttle take offs around corners will cause them to go bad in a hurry.... A lot of people think it is wheel hop but what causes it is that the CV joint is binding and it is even more so when in reverse..... I had to replace a lot of them on my sons VW Karman Cabriolet and my diesel VW truck.
If it only did it in Reverse for a the longest time. Start simple and check to make sure you haven't broken one of the plastic covers under the car, and perhaps the tire might just be catching it in reverse.... Sounds stupid simple, but I've heard of much worse problems being caused by something very simple. Ex, rear vehicle noise caused by trunk not being shut completely or something. I've heard of people replacing relatively expensive parts due to something easy. How many miles are on the car? Tires? Rotated and balanced regularly? Had an alignment done? Just simple things determine the source. Best of luck though! I hope it's simple
