Well as far as your metalic "ping" i doubt you threw a bearing or something of that nature just because i doubt you were wrapping on it hard enough to do so. Hope its just the plug.

Installed the JDM Passenger Side Visor. Easiest upgrade I've done so far, lol.

 

I had my dealership check the transmission because 2nd gear has been notchy and spongey, like a worn bushing, bent linkage, or *gasp* a bad synchro. The guy said my transmission fluid was "really yucky" (just because I drive a Fit doesn't mean you should talk to me like I'm a girl...) and then tried to insinuate that I put the wrong fluid in.

I said "I just bought the car two months ago, and the only thing I did was to have your dealership change my oil."

The car had only 58,000 miles on it when I bought it, and as far as I know usually manual transmissions have a kind of psuedo lifetime warranty? If it was as bad as the guy said, it makes me cringe in fear at how she was driven by the previous owner.

Good news is that the shifting is a lot more smooth and responsive now. The clutch seems to grab better, too, and I don't have to rev as high to get off the line at a stoplight. If you manual transmission drivers have had issues with feeling like you're trying to shift through sand I would hightly recommend changing the fluid for starters.

Bad news is that I'm out $80 I hadn't planned on spending.

Sorry, but some of your observations have nothing to do with fresh transmission fluid. At least the part about the clutch feel and your revs to get moving are probably just in your head.

 

Actually, what exactly did they do to your car for $80? Change the transmission fluid, replace/bleed the clutch fluid, or all of the above?

I know, right? It makes me wonder if they screwed up something, and covered it up through this "transmission service." They're a dealership. They're overpriced as shit. I was worried the trans was more messed up than it is so I went into today with the view of having a bigger problem that would have been covered under the CPO warranty. I tried to talk to the guy but he kind of rushed me out and jumped at the chance to field an incoming phone call. I don't think I'll talk to him again about anything.

I even asked him straight up if they checked the bushings and linkage, and he's all, "yeah yeah yeah, no those things never wear out." and then the phone rang.

So I'm like, well, did they check that shit or not? Whatever. It's shifting better, but not perfect. I'm still thinking the synchros are kinda worn. I gotta find a close-by tuner shop and make some pals, I think.

**edit: It's true, though, that I really am using only about half the RPMs to get the car moving now. Before I had to rev it up pretty high, to the point that made me start questioning all this crap in the first place.

 

If a heavier than needed weight grease had been put in the transmission it could have thickened even more with a drop in temperature.. The extra load would have required more power to get moving and make the clutch slip more than it would with the right weight oil... I am quite sure about what I said being true.

 

Yeah, now that I think about it, that makes sense. And the way the guy tried to grill me about supposed "wrong" fluid in gearbox makes me wonder if they topped it off when they took the car in with the wrong stuff. It's not hard to imagine, when I've seen all kinds of idiotic things happen at any one of the dealerships I service. I got to see a big Lincoln SUV just pouring black smoke out the tailpipe from some dumbass that put too much oil in. Everyone thought the thing was on fire. I'm talking Uncle Buck epicness here.

 

Black smoke is fuel 99% of the time.

 

I agree with DSM,

Black Smoke = Fuel (think diesel trucks)
White smoke = Oil

 

Tell that to the General Manager of that dealership, hahaha. See what I mean?

 

Yeah thats why they are affectionately referred to as the "stealership" here. I would take my car to them maybe once every 3 years for my state inspection just because its on my way home from work and thats only if its last minute bc i forgot to take it somewhere else on the weekend...otherwise they always trying to fix/charge me for stupid crap.

 

got my js racing gt wing in monday and also got my 2 kinetic batteries in yesterday. cant wait to finish this thing. show is coming up in nov so i need this thing done!

 

What is this you speak of. I know about the drycell slim battery but what are you referring to? Is it for a sound system?
