Yet another top speed thread...
I'm sitting in a hotel room in Vlijmen, Netherlands. I used the German autobahn to get here from Switzerland via Basel. There's an electronic cut-off at 112mph on my US-market 2008 5M Sport.
I know this has been beat to death but there's been a lot of speculation here in the past. Hopefully this answers the question.

the fastest I have ever gone (in the Fit) was 90mph on a empty back road. I see no reason to be going even over 80 on a public road, of course autobahn is a exception. I dont take my car to the track so it will never see its top speed
indicated, not actual
You may have seen it on the speedo, but you weren't going that fast. I have bounced mine off the fuel cut at 112. Verified by the max speed function on my scanguageII. It doesn't get more authoritative than the ECU reading the wheel speed sensors. Saddest part is that the engine still had a bit more to give at 112, but as others have already said, outside of a track why bother?
Mine appeared to be reading about 115-120 when i hit the fuel cut, but I wasn't really paying attention to the speedo if you know what i mean. It was one of those times where I am really glad i got the Scanguage. Hey Tex, did you ever get to cutting on your manifold? (threadjack alert!)
my fit used to do 115 with the stock spoiler. now that i have the spoon one it barely gets to 105...
i was pissed!!
i guess the downforce it produces makes the car slower... no wonder spoon doesnt put that spoiler on their race fit
and for the record this was tested on a enclosed road

Tire pressure and lateral G-forces aren't going to cause a Fit to hit 125 MPH, not on this planet or any other. I was meaning only to say that the speedo isn't to be believed when showing speeds in excess of the governor.
Even a GPS reciever isn't 100% accurate...
Just sayin'
That said, the fastest I've been able to attain was 105 with four other people in the car. BTW, 104 mph is roughly 3,000 rpm in 5th with the AT. It's hard to get it to stay in 5th at that speed, though.

My speedo was reading high... It said 117mph or so but the GPS said 182kph which is 113mph. 112mph makes sense as it's the cutoff for "S" speed rated tires. Did the base model Fits ship with S or T rated tires?
As for reaching that speed, I did it 4 or 5 times and only once was on a downhill.
I think the tach read about 5600-5700rpm.
My oil life monitor was 80% two weeks ago. Now it's 60%. I wonder why!

(unless it's on the nurburgring nordschleife's back straight)
it is even doubtful you can reach top speed on an oval.
90mph ON A TRACK is still tough for most
unfortunately, anybody wishing to attempt a "top speed" run will have to do it on public highways

as for the scan gauge 2, if you have read the instructions, it state that the best way to calibrate it is by using GPS
therefore for our purposes GPS is the best method for speed measurement (GPS measures time!!!)
as for top speed on a track.............

u have no idea what u r talking about
i am curious to what "track" has straights measured in MILES
the distance it takes to reach 112mph from say even just 100 mph (on level ground) will be MILES LONGER than ANY north american track's longest straights
did u not notice how long it takes to get to that 112mph mark?
bottom line
- top speed has nothing to do with the "track"
- top speed is more of a concern for the marketing department than it is for engineering
- the main reason why cars are geared for high speeds is for highway fuel economy
ironically anything to do with top speed is therefore actually for the street, be it actual top speed on the autobahn (public street) or for fuel economy on public streets
top speed testing is only done on highly specialized closed courses (no racing done, therefore NOT a track) or salt flats, NOT race tracks

Thanks for straightening me out on that one Capt.
You may return to Honda-tech from whence you came now. I wasn't really trying to engage in an argument for the most accurate way to measure the irrelevancy of the Fits top speed or showcase my lack of knowledge about how long it takes to reach 112 MPH. You are correct about the fact that no road course is long enough to reach max speed in the Fit (or for that matter any road car) Top Gear has shown that quite a few times in their less than official runs on an airstrip in old Blighty. Besides the fuel economy goes right to hell above 100MPH anyway....

If I really cared about top end MPH, I would have never bought
