Should i risk it?

Well i been wanting to get a fit for a bit now and have a little bit money saved up(just a bit) i found a fit sport that was a theft recovery, the engine and rims were stolen, the new owner put in a new engine and just some steelies, the odometer reads 25xxx but i have no idea what the mileage on the engine is, is there anyway to check that, can i like put in the engine vin in carfax.

Also he says he just dropped the engine in and registered it, he didn't give them any paper work for the engine they just registered it, is that right?

thanks

Question Buyer Beware

That could be a big dice roll there Kazuma on your part. So have you taken it for a drive? The carfax may have info if someone entered the data? from the salvaged car, Should at least give the milage on the donor car.
If the price is low enough to cover the unexpected and you like the car, (do you have a good tool selection and mechanically inclined?)
NO don't buy it you just have enough to buy a risky car, save abit more and buy one that has not been Frankenstiened.

Frank and Steinna on their tractor trike thingy on Main St. in Somewherelse, WV

well he wants 8k i have 7, he says he got the engine out of a rear ended fit at 11k miles which was near the same amount of mileage as the body, the oil looks good but there are some small black dots on the dipstick, not sure what that is, so there is no way to guess how close the miles are on the engine? I need something to drive and it runs great.

Well like you said in the Title: Should I Risk It?
I would imagine the insurance co. paid it off and he bought it back and put the engine in and tires on, but who knows. If it is in good running condition shifts smooth and under the hood looks factory (no strange wires lying around) and you really really want it, take it to a honda dealer and have it checked over and if a factory trained mechanic says all is okay then buy it. And enjoy a 10K Fit @8K with the peace of mind that you had it checked out by a professional, and that's what makes sents to me.
Good Luck and keep us posted with pix if you buy

You are suppose to register your engine or other parts that have vin numbers with the CHP inspection station. That way if you get pulled over they can check its registered to your vehicle and not stolen. So make sure they really registered the engine!

have him register that engine.

otherwise you're going to have one massive headache if you ever do get pulled over and/or looked at.

i don't even live in CA, but i know ya'll got some funky laws out that way so make sure everything is on the up and up as best you can.

If it's all not on the up&up not only do you need to worry about owning it, but when it comes time to sell it it might haunt you as well.

If you enter in with prior knowledge bad on you.

Call you insurance guy and ask them.
