How often do you change your coolant?

For the first time since I bought my Fit in February and put less than 1,000 mile on it since then (feet, bike, motorcycle do most of my work) I changed the coolant in it ($40.86). Now I'm wondering should I go by the 2 years rule of thumb or what?

Anyone who changes their coolant at 3 month/1000 miles is an idiot, good riddance. By the way my Fit has 4 years/85K miles on, haven't changed coolant yet.

I believe he bought his used so he didn't change the coolant with only a 1000 miles. To the op it sometime take a little while before people response to your thread so have a little patience.
I'll change mine out in a little when I hit 30k. Small amount to pay for preventative maintenance and it's easy to do.

factory fill on a new honda is 5 years/60000 miles. refilling with the same would be an additional 5 years/60000 miles

I think that's one of the several factors that should dictate changing your fluid. From what I see in this thread alone though, it's more of a guessing game than when to change your oil. 1 of the reasons I decided to change it this week is because I wasn't sure if the last owner ever did that before. And I might be taking my Fit on a road trip this month too (never done that before). If the weather holds up though, I'll take my motorcycle instead.

It not a guessing game unless you burn lots of oil and your car over heats there is no reason to change the coolant.4-5 years is the norm. You need to check it but it dont need to be replaced. Here is a good explanation Radiator and Coolant (Antifreeze) Service Article There is a MM code of 5 when time is up on coolant.

Honda's engines are so efficient and runs cooler the need to change coolant is not necessary until the MM says so. Changing coolant to often is a waste of money and not necessary good because air gets into system and oxidizes the cooper and aluminum.

Hahahaha, Does the word "patience" mean anything to you? This thread has a good community with people who are willing to support one another with positive feedbacks and information. If you aren't able to wait for people to answer to your thread and start swearing on your own thread then maybe your title should be "How often do I give people s***?". Honestly please don't disrespect this thread. If you don't like this thread then you're welcome to leave at any moment, from the looks of it most of these guys wont be so sad when your gone
Fix your attitude or be gone.

There was over 100 hits on this thread and not 1 single reply before I posted here and now it's finally active

PS As for your grammar, remember to use "you're" not "your."

07 sunburnt orange (90k)

24,000m two years for the Green stuff. Honda uses extended life additive package. Just swapped mine for the first time @ 90,000 mi, was blue colored. I put the pink type 2 Honda fluid back in with a coolant swap machine, no need to bleed. My original coolant came out crystal clean. I think it should be done at 60,000mi. But don't quote me on that. It's depends on your driving habits really. A pH test will tell you, or a coolant voltage test with a multimeter. These are cheap easy ways to know when it's time. Here's what happens the additives break down in the coolant these are what coat the entire system with a thin layer once the additives break down this layer of protection decreases or is slowly compromised. They coat the water pump so if the water pump blades aren't coated they can be exposed to moisture that has made its way into the coolant at the expansion tank which leads to rusty corrosion and it'll start to chunk and gunk the whole system. Or , refractometer Almost forgot
