A warning about Air intakes!!
My 07 Fit with a Fujita cold air intake sits in the garage with rod sticking out of the block. The Fujita air filter sits where the left fog light used to be. During a thunder storm I was driving slowly through 6 inch deep water when I was passed on the left. The car that passed sent a wave of water which covered the air filter. The engine took a big drink of water and when #3 piston tried to compress it, BANG! out of the block came the rod. I was able to buy a low mileage (<10k) for $1100. Moral of the story. Pull over if there is any standing water in the road.
i had that happen to me on my civic.... from that point on... i'm anti cold air intake lol! i can't help that i work in a flood zone... with the fit i bought a short intake and i recently ran through a water puddle that was fairly deep that there was no way of avoiding.... still run's great.... cold air intake gives maybe a couple extra horse power.... which makes our car a little faster than dirt... not worth it IMO.
sorry for your loss but this pretty much goes under common sense. you know you have a cold air intake, you know its raining like theres no tomorrow, yet you try and see if you can get away with driving "slow" in 6" of water.
Then just turn your CAI in SRI!!! all you have to do is to make it shorter... or i think injen makes hydroshields... kind of like goretex... I have one homemade, and never had any problems... i also love it!
SRI stands for Short Ram Intake. It is like a cold air intake, but it is shorter, and takes air in from the engine bay as opposed to near the wheel.
Ooooh, and how exactly can i get this SRI? is it just a modification of the stock intake? or do i have to buy new parts like CAI?
One reason I would only do a short ram cold air intake because we do get high water here from time to time. You suck up water in a CAI it will blow your engine big time.
Cat :x
Cat :x
Keep in mind unless you use some serious shielding or a box you are simply turning your SRI into a hot air intake as it will suck all of the hot air in your engine bay. The best best is to mod the stock airbox with something that will pick up air from a cooler location but won't suck water. Dryer hose is a good, albeit somewhat ghetto solution, but tons of cars have done it and be perfectly fine.
Here's the one i did... the elbows come from U bent tubing, everything except the the filters came from vibrant performance. Heat isn't really an issue, the only thing is what's coming from the rad hose... i will probably shield the aluminium with Ayrfoil (kind of aluminium bubble wrap) sorry for the pic, it's from this spring and i made some improvements (yes including cutting the hose clamps...) i'm also working on replacing the breather by an oil catch can... so stay tuned...
lol

I don't think that modding the stock airbox really is better than what i did, but to each is to own... btw if you're going to go this route, you should know that you'll have to remove the resonators inside the air box, having a stock look might be an advantage though...

Man that sucks. When I got my 08 I looked into the CAI and using google I found Fit Freaks, and after some searching reading I found that one or two members had this happen. I don't mean to kick you when you are down, but I am curious how much damage you ended up with. Can you post a picture or two?
Second that. Those manufacturers who manufacture CAI should include one of these in their package. Not sure whether it works though, anyone?
