How many GD3 owners have bought Honda's package tray/cargo cover?
Honda Cargo Cover (Fit) - Bernardi Honda Parts and Accessories
Is it worth $120? There are some cheaper Ebay alternatives.

I'd just like GD owners input on their satisfaction with the alternatives. I just put in a Subwoofer. It's not that valuable but I'd like to cut ANY incentive for breaking into the fit.

you can get it if you want factory cargo cover, but i think you can find cheaper ones on ebay or other online retailers. As for the cargo tray, you can do the same of go to your local Target and buy a container :P it works! haha
cargo tray
Honda refers to a cargo cover to what used to be known as a package tray on any hatchback. I'm wanting to cover up stuff in the trunk. I already own the cargo tray (goes over the carpet) but was reluctant to spend $120 (or $60 for that matter) for a cargo cover. I hope for the Ffreaks who own the OEM Honda cargo cover to chime in on "is it worth it"?
I'm pretty happy with the OEM cargo cover. My friend had an ebay/aftermarket one and the construction & material of it was kinda crappy. When pulling the cover out, it wasn't a smooth pull, felt like it was kinking or catching onto something. Can't speak for all aftermarket covers though, perhaps there's some decent ones out there?
I've an OEM cargo cover for a couple of years and find it quite niffty. Its very simple to get in and out if you have to use the rear section of the car for taller items and comes in handy for keeping things such as presents in the hatch from view.
The cover itself is a thin that rolls in and out very smoothly and wrinkle free as well as surprisingly durable (it held my 13lb cat up a several times without tearing or coming undone). The only bad things I can really say about it is if you're rushing to load your hatch in the rain for example, it gets in the way of loading the items and can be annoying to line up quickly (by missing the slots).

I paid $122 for mine (ebay, new from a dealer) and I have to say, it's a pretty stupid design and it does leave a bit of a gap (this has been discussed in other threads). Had I known I might've built my own (wouldn't have been better but it would've cost maybe five bucks for materials). But the cargo cover does attach to the back seats in a way I wouldn't have been able to duplicate, so I guess I'm okay with it, given the alternatives.
I live in NY and carry stuff in the hatch so I needed to cover it.

It's kind of hard to describe.
It has three parts: the back part is rigid (or somewhat so, probably stiff cardboard) and that's the part that attaches via cord to the hatch door, so when you open the hatch it rises up. In front of that is a flat part of the same material that remains horizontal when you open the hatch (and that part is only a couple of inches front-to-back). In front of that is fabric, and that stretches horizontally and snaps onto the back of the back seats.
It can be rolled up but it's not retractable like a window shade, it's just a piece of fabric (two, actually, since the rear seats are split/fold-down) with five snaps on it.
Maybe there are pictures on the web. If not I could go outside and take some photographs for you, but I'd have to put boots on because there's still a half-foot of snow in my driveway and I'm backed into my space.
Oh, and when I call it a flat part it's not totally flat, it has indentations in it so if you put something on it, it doesn't roll around. For example, a small umbrella.

I bought if for 125 including shipping from an ebay dealer. The prices fluctuates about 5%. I think it is worth it to have something. It is a little cheap feeling, but fits perfectly.
One thing I did, I did not use the snaps to secure the flap. I went out and bought some Velcro instead. The snaps look too 1980's for me and can get in the way when loading cargo with the seats down. I think I will need to sew the hook part of the velcro on the the cargo cover and the same for the fuzzy part. Although, the hook part of the velcro does attach to the Fit's material. it'll probably wear it out over time.
The flap is large enough to just flop over the back of the seats too.
Anything i thought of making would be too hillbilly looking.

different style cargo cover.
The Cargo cover for the GD is a flexible roll up type like a shade similar to those in Subaru wagons. Can't really hold very heavy items, but easier to use.
The cargo cover for the GE is a rigid card board type similar to what I had in my old 1992 Corolla wagon. It folds up and has snaps, which are a pita & seem to serve no purpose--so I just let the flap hang on mine.
feddup is looking for one for a GD flexible type.

Here are a couple pics of it.
The first pic is a little blurry, but you can see where it mounts onto the plastics.

The second pic is just to show it clearer. The cover rolls up under the satin black "beam" and the flap with the hooking tabs on the sides just hangs when unhooked.

Hey feddup,
Keep an eye on Ebay patience will pay off. I got a set of rubber OEM floor mats, oem cargo cover and oem wheel lock for 100.00 w/free shipping. It took a month of watching though.

ebay!
I WILL watch ebay! I'm in no huge hurry. I've gotten most my stuff from Bernardi but will watch patiently this time.

Before going aftermarket always check Majestic Honda for parts prices.
