Help: What is this switch?

Hey All,

I just got my 2007 Fit Sport about a week ago and today I noticed this:

it appears to be some sort of switch, it was hanging near the hood release. It has a small button on it, and i'm not sure what it's for. It's pretty obvious that it should be taped up somewhere (seemingly a pressure switch) but I'm not sure where to put it.

I first thought it was the switch that controls the dome light when the door is opened, but the light didn't turn off when I pressed the button...

any help would be appreciated!

if you bought your car used, it could be just about anything, the only way to find out... a, ask whoever you bought it from... or b, pull those panels out and see where the wiring goes.

DIY cargo light?

That's not something that comes stock in fits.

So since you bought it used, I'm assuming the previous owner installed something.

Most switches in cars would make some sort of LEDs . So I'd check under the hood, foot wells or stuff like that.

intreseting, i'll have to look around to see what it turns on/off then...

due to it's location i figured it was controlled by the door opening/closing

Whoever owned it may have used it to turn the fog lights on and off so they would work separately and with the brights on, that is commonly done.

There are currently no LEDs in the car so unless they were removed it rules that out. Doesn't seem to be a cargo light switch or under the hood.

I tried pressing it with the fogs and heights on/off but it did nothing. Weird

I'm curious as to what it is/does but don't want to take off paneling right now.

It seems like it might have been positioned inside the hood release area or in the door jamb. Based on the lenght and bend of the wire. So it'd be a relay for something related to that

i did a little further prodding in the dark lastnight, and it looks like it doesn't go under the side panneling but actually up and under the dash somewhere.

It looks like a momentary switch... A bell just went off in my head, it has to be for the clutch pedal... Does it start without pushing in the clutch??? If so that is what it's for.

It kind of looks like its tied to an aftermarket alarm. I had an aftermarket alarm in a car years ago that had a similar switch so you could disable the alarm if your fob batteries died.

Is it some sort of James Bond style rocket launcher? Maybe if you hold it down while driving your foglights fold back and you can blast the slower traffic out of the way...

haha i hate when these threads pop up... last time the guys fit turned into a transformer :\

Have you tried contacting the previous owner. Only way to find out what it does or follow the wire... Does it go to the fuse box as all? Maybe there are LED's but they've been unplugged?

Not likely the cause, more likely is they installed it and either the alarm is disconnected or you weren't given fob's. I would suggest climbing in there with a flashlight and scoping out where the wiring is run to. If its an alarm there will likely be a control unit installed under the dash.

So don't click into them, or if you feel the need to click into it don't respond. Try to help the guy out...

Yeah, and what is the possibility that a factory installed switch would have black and white wires.

weren't dealers installing alarms that they sold separately and if you opted not to get it they would just pull a few things out of the car leaving the rest of the wires in the car? Is it possible this is part of that system

hmm, interesting... stuck at work ATM so I can't do any further searching.

Also, I bought the FiT used from a dealer so there's no way of contacting the previous owner.

I don't think they'd be putting in the labor to wire something up unless they absolutely had a buyer. Dealerships don't like doing work they aren't getting paid for...
