Lightbulb Water in the trunk investigation

I did some experiments and having some suggestions about the “rainwater in the trunk” issue.
Test with the ¾ inch water hose downpour indicated that water finds its way between the body flange around the tailgate opening and the weather stripping.
The taillight gaskets and roof to side panel seams were not leaking on my car.
The tailgate flange on Fit is not a single layer of sheet metal but is made by several layers with sizeable gaps between them.
I am sure there are several ways to fix this condition including simply buying the new weather stripping which will be good for another 3 years but I will suggest doing the sealant trick
This task can be done as follows;
  • Perform a leak test
  • Purchase 2 sealants: one to seal the gaps between the panels and another to glue/ seal the weather-stripping to the flange
  • Mark the weather stripping relative to body in several locations for easy installation
  • Pull it out and clean the flange
  • Using body sealant, fill the gaps in the flange (go around all perimeter) and let it dry tack-free
  • Mask the area around the flange, cover the bumper and light lenses
  • Apply uniform 1/16 by 5/16 bead of sealant adhesive around the outer surface of the flange
  • Install the weather stripping, aligning the marks you made before removal
This should hopefully take care of the problem

I have water leakage issues as well but it seems to collect in the spare tire compartment. Is this the same as you are refering to?

Yes in this area; and it seems not to leak so far after repair.

Jazzfitman, спасибо!
I checked the areas under taillights and roof moldings right away;no cracks there (yet)
On my car it was leaking under the tailgate weaterstripping via the body flange joint
