My Gas got jacked! (siped)

Wow, okay so my wife and I always car pool to work since I work 6-3pm and she works 6:30-2:30pm. We usually take her 05 Impreza 2.5RS for work and use the fit for everything else (weekends, groceries, shopping, etc.). Every other week we switch off between her car and my car. I live in a friendly, middle-class neighborhood and my house is at the top of a cul-de-sac in my neighborhood. Anyways, we come home and as we're preparing for our vacation next week, we decide to make a trip to our storage unit and take the Fit.
My wife and I just filled up the Fit on Sunday, and we've used her car the whole week. We've only used the Fit to go to a restaurant and it had nearly a full tank. Well, as we back out of our drive way, to our surprise, the gas light is on. I reset our odometer every time I fill up the tank and it says "31.6 miles". Wow, really!? Someone siped my gas? I knew the economy was bad and heard the stories but never thought it could actually happen to me.

My quick solution? I went to an auto store and bought a locking gas cap for the Fit. Hopefully this works for now.

Or a leak somewhere... seems an odd car to try to siphon gas from, given the length of the filler tube to the tank under the front seat. I don't know how many siphons are that long.

What's wierd is the salesman told me i'm the 8th person within the past 2 weeks who bought a locking gas cap from that store. The other floor workers were like "wow, that honda fit gas cap is popular".
