Signals not always working
Signals not always working
Hey there, you know of those signal lights in the corner of our headlights? GD3. Not the blinking ones. For some reason, those of mine have started not turning on with the switch until I give the top of the headlights a solid tap. I'm not sure why they are doing this, it's both of them, and I've only ever removed one of the headlights. It doesn't seem to be a loose cable, though if it was how would it affect the other one, individually? Any ideas as to what may be happening?
Thanks!
Thanks!
Hey, I'm having the same problem too. I noticed that it's the front passenger side that keeps doing the same thing when I use the lock/unlock on the remote. I have too took a look at the cables and whatnot but everything looks like it's good so I'm not too sure what's causing that issue.

I'm guessing you are talking about the 'parking' lights.Thumping the light housing to make them function would appear to be a connection problem.
Do they come on properly when the lite park position is selected? Does thumping make them go out or come on then? Make sure the connection and light bulb are firm.
Yeah that would be it. Tapping turns them back on. The connection still seems solid. In terms of grounding issue... I don't know what I should do. Perhaps I should get a new bulb just to make sure it's not the bulb's connection? I may just take this to Honda, but that could be a pain.

- Parking lights come on (both) when you thump on the headlight assembly. Does it matter which headlight assy. you tap? Don't have a wiring diag. nor familiar with the Fit's wiring harness. So KISS-in' it,
- parking lights should: be on parallel circuits (one goes out, other should stay on);
- Guess - intermittent short. Tapping, opens the short.
- Inspect both parking light sockets (one at a time).- Guess - intermittent short. Tapping, opens the short.
- Look for play (wiggling). The socket should be snug to the headlight assy.
- Take out one bulb. Check the bulb socket. Inspect bulb filament (visual). Turn on parking light sw (PL sw) with one bulb out. The other bulb should light up (confirms one bulb good, one socket good).
- Switch bulbs, same socket. Bulb lights up, both bulbs good.
- Repeat the same with other socket.
- Any change in result would point to socket or bulb seating issue.
- If indications were the same then plug one socket only (with bulb) into headlight assembly. Make sure the socket is seated properly into the assy. Turn PL sw on. Bulb turns on, wiggle socket and look for changes.
- Turn off PL sw.
- Repeat the same with the other side.
- Now with both bulbs/sockets in place turn on PL switch again.
- Both bulbs on, wiggle sockets one at a time.
- No changes, turn off PL sw.
- Remove sockets one at a time, inspect and clean. Replace. Check again.
Note: Above steps are what I would do without details of the wiring harness/electrical diagram and assuming connectors and fuses are good. Virtual troubleshooting only.
Just my take... Good luck!
have you figured this out? this is happening on my wifes' 08. i definitely think that the bubl sockets are starting to get a little corroded. i've got to figure it out before next month as safety inspection is due. it is either/or. they aren't connected. (at least the problem isn't). you thump on one, and that is the only one that comes on. then the other.. now the drivers' side isn't coming on at all.
I haven't figured it out yet but I but sides started doing the same thing as well. I bought new bulbs since the driver side is either burned out or not functioning at all. I will take a look when I install the bulb and report back.
i'm willing to bet that it begins with the bulb being slightly loose in the socket and the connection slowly creating corrosion. we'll see. maybe i'll trade cars with the wife one day this week and poke around.
Sorry about not getting back about this. I had taken out the faulty bulb and actually just put it in the other way around. Works since then without a hitch, so it was just the bulb's terminals themselves. If you want to be totally sure, just grab a new one.
