Question Will a 51" TV fit?

I just bought a 51" plasma tv and I was advised that the tv must be transported upright. Laying it flat on its back will damage the screen. My question is- will the box fit upright in the Fit? The box dimensions are 51.2" x 32.8" x 13". And what is the best configuration to transport the box securely with the least risk of it falling down and getting damaged?

I know it doesn't help as the packaging and etc may be different but I brought home my Sony 50" tv home standing on its side as suggested by the salesperson at BestBuy. Loaded it in sideways because of tailgate height but after in I stood it up as close to side of car as possible and used the seat belts and some rope to hold it there. If I remember correctly, I needed to push the passenger seat up a bit as well?

Another tip was to let the TV 'settle' before plugging it in. Acclimate(temperature/mounting) to its new environment.
Hope this helps?

I fit a 59" plasma TV in the box in my Fit sitting at 45 degrees....it was TIGHT but it fit. I had to scoot the driver's seat all the way forward (and I'm 6'1"....LOL).

FYI: you should NEVER transport a TV laying flat like Vash did. The screen is unsupported in that position and can crack (not the glass, but the actual LED, LCD, plasma filament). These TVs are always shipped upright.

This, I have seen a few TVs get damaged this way.

Depending on the model Samsung is still a decent set. That being said, my home theater room has a Panasonic. LG in my living room and bedroom.

I have done the same as many of the others. A 55" vizio laid flat. Pretty tight fit. My wife had to drive. lol Couldn't drive a 5-speed with my knees in the dash.

Stupid to lay a flat panel flat...warranty will not cover the cracked screen from improper transport.

I fit a 59" Samsung plasma angled at 45* in the box. Just have to get creative.

LOL. I remember taking my 52" LCD home in my Fit. My knees were in my chin, but I got it home! Not fun shifting though.

As long as you use common sense it should be fine. Worked fine for me and enjoy my tv everyday. Maybe i should have specified it was still in the box so it had the cushion and support of that. Further more, the instructions to install the base of the tv instruct you to lay the tv face down.
