I'd be grateful if someone would direct me to a DIY on inspecting the condition of engine mounts.

Regarding where they are located: I can see something at the top right side of the engine bay that looks like an engine mount, and something in the lower left side that looks like it might be a transmission mount. Not sure where the other mounts are.

Anyone have a page number in the Honda OEM Service Manual. I just glanced through the Engine Removal section, and it helps a little, but the shots of the mounts are all close-ups and don't show location. Besides, they don't tell you how to diagnose a bad engine mount. I've seen one blown mount on a Toyota, but I'd like to have something like a real DIY.

as for "diagnosing" a bad mount, you're just looking for a torn piece of rubber that would allow the mount to move more than it should...

In case anyone would like to know, the Engine Mount Replacement is on Page 5-21 to 5-23 of the Honda Service Manual. On the Manual Transmission models, there are 2 engine mounts (a side and a rear) and 2 transmission mounts (a left front and what looks like a mount on top of the tranny just above the left front mount), so you are dealing with 4 points of connection in total.

The Service Manual only gives one step-by-step direction for mount removal/installation, and it is for the Side Engine Mount, Page 5-23. It's pretty clear. The only part that I am unsure of is the mount-to-bracket clearance (6 mm). Maybe if I have to replace one, it will become clear.

I have had a look at the mounts. Perhaps I lack the appropriate expertise, but I could not see anything abnormal. Which is to say that they looked intact. With a small screw driver, I tried to pry the edges of the rubber part of the mounts to see if I could see anything more, but they are fitted pretty well within the metal part. On my Toyota, I was able to lift the edge of the blown rubber mount and actually see that it was torn.

Lastly, I started the car and looked to see if there was any movement of the mounts at idle. The three upper-most ones looked fine (I could not get under the car while it was running, for obvious reasons).

The reason I inspected the mounts to begin with is that I am trying to birddog a vibration coming off the power train. No luck so far.

 

Was reading this thread for information because I have a torn/broken mount on my 2007 Fit.

I was surprised at the anger in the thread. When the OP thanked "Einstein" even though the link didn't work, it wasn't meant in sarcasm or being passive-aggressive. The respondents screen name IS Einstein. lol
