Sway Bar end links

I did a SEARCH and didn't see anything useful.

Our '07 (71K miles) has developed a knock coming from the front. You can't feel it in the steering, just hear it.

I pulled the wheels and found that 3 of the 4 boots on the sway bars' end links were torn.

Knocking end links are a problem on other Honda models, so I'm not too surprised. Pricing the parts out, I found that the discount dealers sell them for ~ $35 each, MSRP $48 (#s 8 & 9, below), while Moog-brand replacement parts on Rock Auto are about $22 ea.

If anyone else has replaced these, what brand did you buy and how did they work out for ya?

Moog has a very good reputation, that's all we use at work unless they aren't available for specific cars. Moog links also come with grease fittings as well unlike the oem.

What boots are you talking about? Are you talking about the heim joints on ends of items 8 and 9?
You're better off getting replacements from junkyard or dealer instead of repairing those.

Yes...the end boots at the top & bottom of 8 are ripped/split. (I thought they were ball joints, but no matter)

This despite spraying the rubber with Silicone Spray every oil change.

I've ordered the Moog end-links.

Only the cheapest replacement parts do not incorporate grease fittings, BTW.

What if that silicon spray is what caused them to crack?

The silicon is supposed to keep the rubber supple. Never a problem with ripped rubber in 25 years of Honda ownership...'till now.

The split boots do not seem dried out or anything. They don't look "old".

I ordered those parts from the same website and they replaced them when I replaced my struts.

I drive her hard in nyc so I figured 40 some odd dollars for peace of mind is worth it. I found that after 78k on my 0, the boots neither torn nor leaking but was not as soft as the replacements.

I'd say go for it.

Moog may very well be the OEM supplier in the first place. I would not hesitate to use them.

Keep us updated on if this solved your problem. I've got the same problem, creaks and clunks that used to only be over speed bumps and out of steep driveways. I now get the noise going down the road over potholes, its bad now(about a month). I thought it was the motor mounts and replaced those with Innovate ones.(2 of them were in bad shape) I've gone over everything and all I can find is the bottom boot on the passenger side end link has a slight rip on the seam. The drivers side endlink has no rips. I pulled both sides off and checked the joints, all seem to be smooth still when moving them with my hand. Do these feel smooth and still "clunk" when they are shot?

^^ Ok I'll post some pics.

The Rock Auto parts should be delivered in time to do the job over the weekend.

Stay tuned!

PS On other Honda models with clunking links, you cannot feel the slop. They incorporate a plastic sleeve inside (the four "dots" hold the sleeve in). To troubleshoot, disconnect the sway bar (both sides ) and go for a drive.

Did that today on the way to work except I left the drivers side on so the sway bar wouldn't be banging away at the A arm, it solved the noise. I sourced parts to build some top quality "PowerGrid" end link clones. There on the way also!

EDIT: Looks like the left hand thread links are a 5 week wait, so I've got to source another place that may have em in stock. keep us updated and maybe put up some pictures of the Moog ones you bought. I may go with the Rock-Auto el'cheapo option until the the good ones come back in stock but I think I'll wait to see yours first.

My installation report is On Hold, as one of the supplied links was the wrong part inside a correctly-marked box.

So, stay tuned.

Sway Bar Links installed, no more noise from the front.

I took pictures and will post them up in a new DIY topic, probably next week.
